WWE Backlash 2020 results: Drew McIntyre retains, thanks in part to Lana

Before Drew McIntyre & Bobby Lashley’s WWE championship match could even start on Sun., June 14, Lashley got the champ locked in a Full Nelson. A distraction from The All Mighty’s manager MVP put McIntyre at a disadvantage before he could even take of the sleeveless duster Drew wears for his entrance.

The Big Scot didn’t give up the fight, of course. But he sold his neck and shoulder like he might have to, even as he got a nearfall off a Northern Lights Suplex...

...and turned a spear on the floor into a scoop slam onto barricade.

Drew was able to get in more offense after that, but he was still largely on the receiving end of this slobberknocker. The champ did fight off another Full Nelson and get two on a reverse Alabama Slam. But he soon found himself in a crossface and an ankle lock as their Backlash match turned into a submission affair.

Lashley got to the bottom rope to escape a Kimura, then treated us to a great nearfall after a spear. McIntyre’s kickout brought out Bobby’s wife Lana, though. And she got on the apron, ended up getting bumped into MVP on the floor, and creating an opening for the Claymore.

After Team Lashley walked off in disarray, Drew vowed to remain champion for a long time.
