WWE just made the following major announcement about their creative direction going forward:
“In an effort to streamline our creative writing process for television, we have consolidated both teams from Raw and SmackDown into one group, led by Bruce Prichard. Paul Heyman will concentrate on his role as an in-ring performer.”
Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff were named Executive Directors of Raw and SmackDown, respectively, about one year ago.
When ratings for SmackDown lagged in October, Bischoff was relieved of his duties in favor of Bruce Prichard.
Raw’s ratings have been sinking lately, and it sure sounds like Heyman’s role on creative was just given to Prichard too.
So Paul Heyman, one of the most brilliant minds in wrestling, will now be relegated to being an advocate for a wrestler who is never on television.
What do you think of WWE’s overhaul to their creative process?
