Apollo Crews’ first U.S. title defense ends like a lot of WWE title matches

Apollo Crews won he United States championship on Monday Night Raw last week. As the story goes, he was given the chance to choose who he wanted to defend his title against on Monday Night Raw this week.

He chose Kevin Owens.

The reasoning was sound and, more importantly, used the logic of a true babyface — Owens was there for Crews, and he’s as deserving as anyone, so he gets the shot.

The two were actually having a pretty damn good match too, one that looked like it could go either way, when Angel Garza and Andrade hit the scene to attack them both and force a No Contest. Crews’ first title defense, then, looks a lot like so many other title defense in WWE.

He didn’t win, but he’s still champion.

Naturally, this led to a tag team match with Crews & Owens teaming to take on Garza & Andrade.
