Fatal 4-Way match for the SmackDown Tag Team championship
Take the Elimination Chamber match from February, put the titles on Big E & Kofi Kingston, trade the Usos, Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode for Forgotten Sons, and get rid of the Chamber.
The Road to Money in the Bank
In a remix of a ladder match from WrestleMania 36, The New Day won WWE tag gold (silver?) for the eighth time when Big E beat The Miz and Jey Uso on the April 17 SmackDown.
With Jimmy Uso out, the decision was made to move out to move away from that three-way feud. To freshen things up, they brought back one of The Miz & John Morrison’s challengers from Elimination Chamber, Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado of Lucha House Party. The masked high-fliers earned their way into the title picture with a win over the self-described “Greatest Tag Team of the 21st Century”.
Another decision was made - the tag scene needed new blood. Enter NXT’s Forgotten Sons, a talented trio who for a variety of reasons never quite clicked with the Full Sail faithful. Steve Cutler, Wesley Blake, and Jaxson Ryker debuted with a win over LHP, and have gotten the better of Kingston & E on multiple occasions.
On last night’s ‘go home’, the helped Miz & Morrison get the better of both babyface teams. Then the heels got in each others’ faces to prove it will be every team for themselves come Sunday (May 10) on PPV.
What’s at stake
The Sons and Lucha House Party are here because of “the current circumstances” - both the coronavirus pandemic which has led to WWE’s second straight empty arena PPV, and the injury to Jimmy Uso. A win would change the story of their entire careers. It would seem odd for WWE to opt to strap either right now, though, seeing as they’ve never done it on any brand in the past.
Miz & Morrison and The New Day are a different story. All four men have carried the company’s belts before, and will again whether they leave the Performance Center with the SmackDown Tag titles tomorrow night or not.
The big question is whether these 8 - 9 men can make the show feel lively tomorrow night. Their 4-way will likely be called on to provide energy to the card with a spot heavy affair. Can they do it?
Join us at 7 p.m. Eastern on May 10 and we’ll find out together.
