WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 8
Creeping up a wall of glass, I’m entirely made of sand. Lurching up. Feeding back. What the canyon wants, the canyon gets, and the canyon craves an apology and a pound of flesh, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show, folks.
The show opens with Mandy Rose working out backstage when Otis Dozovic rolls up to ask if she’s ready.
She says she’s ready and he asks how he can help, but she tells him she’s got this, kisses him on the cheek, and walks off.
Sonya Deville is shadowboxing backstage when Dolph Ziggler rolls up, also asking if she’s ready. Sonya says this is five years of beatings she’s ready to hand out, and Ziggler says he’ll be back here waiting for when she wins, he just asks that she go easy on Mandy’s face, for him. She tells him no promises and walks off.
Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville
Rose out the gates with the violence, backing Deville into the corner and beating her down. Little bit of separation, off the ropes, Mandy with a right hand into grounded punches and Sonya bails to the floor for a breather. Back inside, leg kicks, sliding knee, Deville gets two and continues attacking the knee, stomping the back of the leg!
Waistlock takedown into a bodyscissors, jawing at Rose, asking if she really thinks she’s better and telling her that she’s embarrassing herself. Dragon sleeper applied, rear chinlock, peeling her false eyelashes off, but Mandy is able to convert to a pin to force the escape. Sonya shoves her off, a kick to the breast that frankly looked like it hurt, off the ropes but Rose hits a lariat!
Another one, taking Deville to the floor, smashing her face into the announce table and the steel steps, putting her over the announce table as an exclamation point! Back inside, demanding Sonya get up, underhooks, Deville slips out and counters a knee...
Sonya Deville wins by pinfall with a schoolboy pin.
Commentary hypes up the rest of the show and we go to break.
Forgotten Sons (Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake), John Morrison, & the Miz vs. Lucha House Party (Gran Metalik & Lince Dorado) & New Day (Big E & Kofi Kingston)
Kingston and Miz to start, bit of light mat grappling, the match breaks down into a wild brawl and the babyfaces stand tall to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Blake is in control, beating E down in the corner. Off the ropes, drop down, leapfrog, Big catches him into the Cobra Twist but Cutler makes the save before he can get spanking. Tag to Kingston, off the ropes, leapfrog leg drop for two. Springboard dropkick, snapmare, tag into a turning splash and E hits the Big Splash.
Tags to the Lucha House Party, they keep the press up with splashes of their own, only two. Metalik with an arm wringer, tag back to Kofi, who comes off the top with a double stomp to the arm. Cover for one, hard whip but Steve rolls away and Kingston eats turnbuckles! Miz tags in and puts boots to his old rival, tag to Morrison, and double-teams ensue.
Rolling Alabama Slam into the sliding knee, only two, shifting to an armbar and tagging out to Cutler as the heels continue to work Kofi over as we go to break.
Back from commercial, heels still in charge and beating Kingston down but he gets one over on the Sons and clears the path! Miz with a leg pick... the Forgotten Sons pull the babyfaces off the apron, no tag! Kofi with an SOS on the A-Lister, both men down and out, Metalik on the apron and he makes the tag! Lucha House Party rolling, double stunner from Lince, quick tags, short sunset flip powerbomb nearly puts Morrison away!
Assisted Frankensteiner, Gran off the second with a moonsault, Lince off the top, shooting star press... BLAKE AND CUTLER MAKE THE SAVE! Kofi sends Wesley over the top, E lawn darts Cutler into a gamengiri! Blake cuts the rally off and the Sons hit an inverted DDT / stomp combo before powerbombing E onto Kingston!

NOBODY HOME ON STARSHIP PAIN BUT HE LANDS ON HIS FEET! Miz tags in, poison Frankensteiner from Dorado on Morrison but the A-Lister slides in...
Forgotten Sons, John Morrison, & the Miz win by pinfall with Skull-Crushing Finale from Miz on Lince Dorado.
Backstage, King Baron Corbin is interviewed.
He says he doesn’t think Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak found anybody to tag with them, and he’s interested in seeing how far Rey Mysterio can fly in Money in the Bank. He runs down all his fellow Money in the Bank competitors.
Commentary hypes up Jeff Hardy’s return for after the break.
Back from commercial, Jeff Hardy makes his entrance.
Renee Young interviews him in the middle of the ring.
He says he’s not sure what he has left to prove but he’s climbed some tall mountains in WWE and Swanton Bomb’d off most of them, and had lower lows than most, but he’s a survivor.
We cut backstage to see Sheamus watching and mocking Hardy, and Jeff talks about how he misses the fans but he can still hear our voices chanting for him. He calls Sheamus out, saying he knows he’s watching.
He says this is the saddest thing he’s ever seen in WWE, the adrenaline junkie crawling back into the ring to beg his dealers for one more sip and they’re not even here to give him a pity sip. Nobody’ll say it to his face because he’s a legend, but he will— the fans he’s been pandering to, sure they love the high-flying maniac who competed in the first TLC match, but they’re tired of him.
They’re tired of the suspensions, the releases, the no-shows, and most of all they’re tired of the wasted second chances. Hardy says for a hater he sure knows a lot about him, and Sheamus says the sad part is he’s not a hater. He used to respect him, and he realized last week that Jeff’s never really coming back.
Hardy says maybe he should ask himself that question, and Sheamus says that unlike him, he’s not afraid of the hard truths. Everybody seems to know that Jeff Hardy’s next big failure is around the corner, except for Jeff Hardy, and since he came back, he’s been sniffing out SmackDown’s weakest flames, and now it’s time for him to put Jeff’s out.
The Celtic Warrior rushes the ring but Hardy meets him with a dropkick! Boots up in the corner, up top... WHISPER IN THE WIND! Kick to the midsection... TWIST OF FATE! Up top again... SWANTON BOMB! Jeff poses in the turnbuckles and lets out a primal scream before taking his leave of a furious Sheamus.
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get some hype for the Undertaker documentary.
Braun Strowman makes his entrance.
He gets on the mic and says he debuted with the Wyatt Family, but if Bray thinks he’s responsible for his success, he’s crazier than he looks, and if he’s got something to say, he should say it to his face.
Enter Bray Wyatt.
He says all he ever wanted was for Strowman to apologize, to which Braun says he doesn’t owe him anything. Wyatt says that’s not true and it’s going to be very hard for him, because he’s always cared about Strowman. A good creator always knows his own creation, and he knows what he’s gonna say and do and what’s best for Braun.
Strowman tells him to shut up and he doesn’t know anything about him. Wyatt says he knows he needs to come home and he doesn’t belong out there with the rest of them, and he wants to show him how to be special, just like him. All he has to do is relieve him of that burden around his waist so he can come home.
He needs to get back that Universal Championship and says their journey is just beginning. He doesn’t want to spoil the fun but he wants to give Braun a taste of things to come, and he passes him the black sheep mask. He asks Strowman to try it on and come back home, and we get footage of the Fun House pals telling him to come home.
Braun is confused at first but says that he is home, he’s got the title, and on Sunday, he’s gonna keep it and leave Bray stuck and playing with his puppets. He leaves, and Bray calls after him, saying he’s sorry but he tried.
Otis is shown walking backstage when he runs into Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak.
Bryan asks how Mandy is doing and Otis says she’s okay. They ask if he heard what Corbin said about him and they head off together to talk about it and send us to break.
Boss and Hug Connection (Bayley & Sasha Banks) vs. Lacey Evans & Tamina
Tamina attacks Bayley and Sasha out the gates, knocking them to the floor! Referee Danilo Anfibio with the ten count, Bayley in legal and Snuka puts her in the corner. Upkick, Tamina grabs her by the head and throws her into the ropes! Off the ropes, duck the lariat but Snuka scoops her up for a slam! Stinger Splash, but Bayley jumps on her with a sleeper hold!
Backed into the corner to break, Banks with the blind tag and Bayley with the chop block! Sasha waiting overhand strikes, shoulder thrusts in the corner, double teams ensue and the heels bail to the floor for a breather only to walk right into Lacey Evans on the floor! Back inside, Bayley off the top but Tamina cuts her out of midair with a right hand to send us to break!

And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get a video breakdown as to how Money in the Bank is gonna work.
Backstage, Carmella and Dana Brooke are interviewed about Money in the Bank.
Dana says nobody could believe she beat Naomi, and nobody knows what to expect in this match, and she thinks she has just as good a chance as anybody. Carmella stakes out her claim as a former Ms. Money in the Bank.
The heels make their entrances for our main event and we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get another hacker video package, saying the thing about anger is you can always hear it before you see it.
Bryan and Gulak’s partner is... OTIS DOZOVIC!
King Baron Corbin, Cesaro, & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak, & Otis Dozovic
Bryan and Corbin to start, Dan with a dropkick, going for leg kicks but Baron trips him and applies a Boston Crab! Bryan slips under, rolls through, and nails him with forearms from mount before kicking his leg out from under him! Tag to Gulak, trading shots, Corbin draws him up and jaws at him only to get a series of punches out of Drew!
Dropkick sends the King to the floor, Gulak bids him return to the ring but he rolls in just enough to tag Cesaro in. Side headlock, shot off, shoulder block, Swiss Cyborg cover for one. Catch the crossbody, Gulak slips out, scoop and a slam... NOPE! Up top, Nakamura knocks Drew off the turnbuckles... ASSISTED SWISS DEATH!
Karelin lift follows, Shinsuke tags in, snapmare, stepping on Gulak’s face but he rolls away from a stomp and tags Otis in! Dozer fending off kicks, dropping Nakamura with lariats, clear the apron, scoop, Shinsuke floats over, waistlock, standing switch, Otis with the takedown into a Stinger Splash! Fired up... CATERPILLAR!
Cesaro runs into a pop-up drop, Bryan and Gulak dump him to the floor and we go to break with the babyfaces standing tall in the ring.
Back from commercial, Corbin is in control with a top wristlock locked in on Bryan. Dan gets out, throwing forearms with abandon, landing on his feet on a back suplex, basement dropkick takes his knee out! Cesaro tags in and clears Otis off the apron, tag to Gulak! Exploder suplex, Cesaro puts him in the corner, uppercut, jocking for position, Drew rolls him through into an arm-trap armbar! Cesaro gets out, tags Corbin in, Gulak ducks a lariat, kick to the knee, the Gu-Lock is in but Nakamura breaks it up with a kick! Otis runs him over, Cesaro kicks him in the midsection but Dozer jiggles and powers up, dumping the Swiss Cyborg to the floor!
Baron dumps him to the floor, Gulak with a pin for two! Corbin cuts him off with a kick, boot up, off the second with a diving lariat... NOPE! Cesaro and Nakamura post Otis, Bryan takes the Swiss Cyborg out with the diving knee but Shinsuke takes him out with a kick! Corbin with Deep Six...
King Baron Corbin, Cesaro, & Shinsuke Nakmaura win by pinfall with Deep Six from Corbin on Drew Gulak.
Post-match the heels hold Gulak up... BUT THE AMERICAN DRAGON DECAPITATES BARON WITH THE BUSAIKU KNEE! Brawling on the floor, dumping the heels over the barricade... GULAK SPRINGBOARDS OFF THE BARRICADE TO WIPE THEM OUT! They brawl to the back and only King Corbin remains at ringside.
He slides a ladder into the ring and sets it up, climbing it to remind us how you win Money in the Bank, but Bryan returns and cuts him off! Chest kicks in the corner, Baron throws him into the ladder, and then climbs the ladder but here comes Otis! He folds the ladder up and rams it into Corbin! Setting it back up, Dozer goes to climb but the ladder breaks on him and Baron attacks.
Dan brings a new ladder in, dragon screw to Corbin, he takes Bryan out and climbs the ladder to retrieve the briefcase.
That’s the show, folks.
