Over the weekend, we learned the premiere date for WWE Network’s Undertaker: The Last Ride documentary mini-series - something we’ve been hyped for since the first teasers aired during WrestleMania 36.
Now we’ve got a full trailer (embedded above), the release schedule for all five parts of The Last Ride, and some more information about what exactly the event chronicles.
Here’s the schedule, per WWE.com:
Part 1 - Sun., May 10 immediately following Money in the Bank
Part 2 - available on demand from Sun., May 17 at 10 a.m. Eastern
Part 3 - available on demand from Sun., May 24 at 10 a.m. Eastern
Part 4 - available on demand from Sun., June 14 at 10 a.m. Eastern
Part 5 - available on demand from Sun., June 21 at 10 a.m. Eastern
WWE’s description for the series indicates it will cover “over three years in the career of The Phenom”. The synopsis for this Sunday’s premiere episode reveals this journey starts at what was supposed to be the end of the road for the Dead Man... his 2017 loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33.
UNDERTAKER: THE LAST RIDE – CHAPTER 1: THE GREATEST FEAR
Get a rare and revealing look at Mark Calaway, the man behind The Undertaker, as he prepares for the final match of his storied WWE career against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33.
While it’s unlikely to have quite the same cultural reach, this certainly seems like it will be the WWE equivalent to ESPN’s The Last Dance, a ten part documentary covering the legacy of Michael Jordan that’s been running on Sunday nights for the past few weeks. That series focuses a lot of attention on the 1997 - 98 NBA season, Jordan’s last with the Chicago Bulls. But that wasn’t the end of MJ’s career - although it probably should have been.
Did his Boneyard Match win over AJ Styles mark the end for Taker, the way the trailer seems to hint it may have?
I can’t wait to watch all five parts of The Last Ride and find out.
