WWE’s ratings are struggling during the coronavirus pandemic, and Vince McMahon is trying to figure out how to turn things around.
He started off by creating the concept of brand-to-brand invitations, but that idea is really just another version of last year’s convoluted Wild Card rule.
The other tactic that McMahon always has in his back pocket is calling up fresh new stars from NXT. Do you remember when Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano were briefly called up from NXT a little over one year ago? It was primarily a panic move for ratings.
Rumors have been swirling all week about Matt Riddle being called up to the main roster, potentially as soon as tonight’s (May 29) episode of SmackDown. To add more fuel to that fire, have you noticed that Riddle is no longer pictured on the NXT banner on WWE’s web site?
It’s not like McMahon to just call up one wrestler from NXT, and that’s where the latest report from Fightful picks things up:
“In addition to Matt Riddle, there are additional NXT call-ups planned for the main roster. No firm plans have been provided, but they’re expected over the next month or so.”
There aren’t many details, but we can expect more NXT call-ups besides Matt Riddle will be appearing on Raw and/or SmackDown over the next month.
Who else do you think WWE will select?
