Daniel Bryan, Elias advance in Intercontinental title tournament

New, comments

The first round of the Intercontinental championship tournament got underway on this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, and two wrestlers have advanced to the semifinals.

First, Elias defeated Baron Corbin after a match that went far longer than any reasonable fan would ever expect — or want — it to. It’s something of a surprise, considering Corbin always seems to worm his way to victory, but alas it was not to be this time.

Secondly, Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak had themselves a friendly competition that saw the student defeat the teacher, leading to this rather interesting interview:

That would be Bryan saying he hasn’t had a shot at the Intercontinental championship since he had to forfeit it nearly five years ago when he literally wrestled for it at WrestleMania 36 just last month.

Either way, he seems like he really wants it back!

Elias will move on to wrestle the winner of the AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura match while Bryan awaits the winner of Jeff Hardy vs. Sheamus.
