WrestleMania 36 results: Braun Strowman wins the Universal championship

@WrestleMania

Not only was Goldberg vs. Braun Strowman for the Universal championship held on the first night of WrestleMania 36 from the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, it wasn’t even the main event. Perhaps it may have been, had Roman Reigns been in the match as originally planned, but the coronavirus pandemic led to his pulling himself from the show.

Strowman was announced as the replacement, without any storyline explanation. This was, then, simply a match for the title between two big names.

It looked like Strowman might surprise us with a Running Powerslam right off the rip, but Goldberg slipped out and hit three consecutive spears. Braun kicked out anyway, so Billy hit one more, then called for the Jackhammer.

Strowman countered that with a Powerslam, then hit another, then another, then, for good measure, one more.

That was enough to get the pin to make Strowman the new Universal champion.

The finisher spam lasted just over two minutes.
