We’ve known about Roman Reigns being out of WrestleMania 36 for over a week now. It’s been four days since the man himself confirmed as much in a social media post. WWE, however, was stubbornly refusing to reveal as much with an episode of Friday Night SmackDown still to air before the event.
Triple H did say WWE would have a “unique” way to write Reigns out of the match.
Well, during SmackDown this week, the announcement of a change was made:
BREAKING NEWS:@Goldberg will now defend the @WWE Universal Championship against @BraunStrowman at @WrestleMania. #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/dYFgw40tek
— WWE on FOX (@WWEonFOX) April 4, 2020
That was it. Out of nowhere, they just announced the change while giving zero reason for it happening.
It’s at least possible there is more to come as far as an angle, or an explanation, or literally anything. But for now, that’s all we have.
