If Ronda Rousey returns to WWE it’ll be part time, not for you ‘ungrateful fans’

New, comments

Ronda Rousey was a guest on former Jackass star Steve-O’s podcast Wild Ride this week. The subject of her time in WWE, and the possibility of a return, were discussed.

Rousey hasn’t done anything for the company in a year - leaving after dropping the Raw Women’s title to Becky Lynch in the main event of WrestleMania 35. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon continue to insist Ronda will return at some point. Rumors to that effect pop up with some regularity, as does speculation the company is planting the seeds for a resumption of her program with Lynch, or the long-awaited Four Horsewomen of MMA vs. Four Horsewomen of NXT angle.

In her chat with Steve-O, Rousey speaks highly of the WWE women’s locker room and how much she enjoyed performing. On the flip side, she talks about how much she hates WWE’s schedule and the travel it mandates - as she has plenty of times in the past. She also goes hard at another thing she didn’t like about her 16 months as a pro wrestler... you.

“I love WWE - I had such a great time. I love all the girls in the locker room. Like hell yeah, running out there, having fake fights for fun is just the best thing. I love choreography, I love acting, I love theater. It’s live theater. It’s one of the last forms of live theater, and it’s so fun.

But I was basically doing it part time, and I was away from home over 200 days out of the year... Whenever I was home, I wasn’t even home when I was home. I was basically just trying to recover enough to be able to get through the next stint of being gone.

It was just not worth it for my family. Because we were eliminating all of our expenses and living this lifestyle, we didn’t need it. We didn’t need the money. So it’s just like, what am I doing it for if I’m not being able to spend my time and energy on my family, but instead spending my time and energy on a bunch of fucking ungrateful fans that don’t even appreciate me.

I love performing. I love the girls. I love being out there, but at the end of the day I was just like fuck these fans, dude. My family loves me and they appreciate me. I want all my energy to go into them. So that was my decision at the end of the day.

It’s like, ‘Hey girls, love what you’re doing. I’m gonna try and take all my momentum and push you guys as far as I can — fly little birds, fly! I’m going fucking home!’ And that was basically it.

If I ever do come back, it will never be at a full-time capacity ever again. I think like for stints, for chunks of time. No, I’ll never be full time again over 200 days a year on the road like that ever again.”

Many fans had turned on “Rowdy” by the end of her run, and she was playing a heel for the match with Lynch & Charlotte Flair in New Jersey last April. Comments like these will help ensure that situation’s unchanged if/when she does return as a part-timer.

Rousey had a similarly contentious relationship with fans during her UFC run. How much of it is real and how much of it is work?

Let the debate continue.
