Dream Match Mania starts tomorrow, and might be a glimpse into WWE’s future

For now, this is a fun idea to fill a weird WrestleMania week. Where we normally would have action and interviews from Axxess, this year we’re getting Superstars announcing fantasy match-ups that play out on WWE 2K20.

Dream Match Mania airs tomorrow (Thurs., April 2) at 1 p.m. Eastern on WWE Network and the company’s various online platforms. We’ll get the Sasha Banks vs. Trish Stratus match for which the trailer is embedded above, with Banks & Bayley calling the action. We’ll also hear Jimmy & Jey Uso call this showdown between their cousin Roman Reigns and their honorary cousin The Rock.

Other match-ups and announce teams on the special are...

  • John Cena vs. Hulk Hogan (Drake Maverick & R-Truth announcing)
  • Seth Rollins vs. Ric Flair (Johnny Gargano & Adam Cole)
  • Charlotte Flair vs. Beth Phoenix (Charlotte & Beth)
  • Big E vs. Goldberg (Big E & Kofi Kingston)

Yes, we’ll get to hear E talk about slapping meat with Willy G!

But while that’s the most exciting thing about tomorrow’s special for yours truly (and Large Epsilon), this could also be an interesting proof of concept should WWE decide - or have no choice but to - go on hiatus when they run out of taped material next week.

Maybe it won’t be Superstars calling video game bouts, but Raw, SmackDown & NXT could be about to become something social distancing-friendly the way Dream Match Mania is.

Check it out tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern if you want to glimpse into one possible future. And see big meaty men virtually bumping meat.
