WWE returns to pay-per-view (PPV) — if your cable provider is carrying the event, of course — tomorrow night (Sun., Mar. 8, 2020) live from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with its Elimination Chamber event starting at 6:00 pm ET with the Kickoff show leading right on into the main course at 7 pm ET on the WWE Network.
Set for the card: Two Elimination Chamber matches, a 3-on-1 handicap match for the Intercontinental championship, and more!
Luckily for you Cagesiders, our staff of learned wrestling blowhards is here to help figure out just how the event is going to play out with predictions for each match on the card.
Let’s get to it.
Elimination Chamber predictions
Elimination Chamber (Shayna Baszler vs. Asuka vs. Natalya vs. Liv Morgan vs. Ruby Riott vs. Sarah Logan)
Geno Mrosko: Baszler is the heavy favorite here and yet I can’t help but feel like something is going to happen that will change all that. The problem is there really aren’t any other actually good options in this match. This is as blatant as they’ve ever been regarding who will win a match. Pick: Shayna Baszler
Sean Rueter: Sean is out in Alaska so he’s tagged me, Kyle, in to make his picks for him. But I’m not going to make them like me (I’ll do that as I normally do below) but try to channel my inner Sean Rueter. And if there’s anything about Sean’s predictions, it’s that he’s usually wildly inaccurate. However, there are some matches so obvious even he isn’t going to pick wrong. And this is one of them. Pick: Shayna Baszler
Kyle Decker: So that rumor yesterday morning about Vince doubting Shayna Baszler makes it a bit less of a gimme here. However, how else do they go? None of the Riott members are suddenly getting a WrestleMania match with Becky. Neither is Nattie, who suffers from just being around forever. Asuka feels the biggest of those not Shayna, but they just did that. Even if the rumors are true, they stick with Shayna and then change course later if Vince is adamant in going in another direction and they can convince Rousey to come back. Pick: Shayna Baszler
Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Who am I to doubt the Queen of Spades? She’s a freight train barreling down the tracks on a one-way trip to WrestleMania, and all I want to know is who I have to bribe to get her to bite me next. Pick: Shayna Baszler
Cain A. Knight: Shayna Baszler recently became a vampire or cannibal and sunk her teeth into Becky Lynch. That would seem to make her the obvious winner here, considering everyone else is either a pretender or recently defeated by Lynch. Is it too late for Ronda Rousey to make a surprise appearance and steal someone’s spot in this match? Pick: Shayna Baszler
Stella Cheeks: Nattie and Asuka have a thing. Ruby and Liv and Sarah have a thing. Shayna basically just has to wait and clean up. Here’s hoping that the final two are Shayna and Asuka! Pick: Shayna Baszler
Elimination Chamber (The Miz & John Morrison vs. The New Day vs. The Usos vs. Heavy Machinery vs. Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode vs. Lucha House Party)
Geno Mrosko: It doesn’t seem likely they’ll do a title change here, as they have at least one fued to build to that has nothing to do with the straps and they’re probably headed for another multi-team match at WrestleMania anyway. Pick: Miz & Morrison
Sean Rueter: This one is so up in the air that Sean wouldn’t have to work too hard to get it wrong. (In fact, this is one he may accidentally get right.) He wouldn’t pick the obvious ones like the champs or the Usos. He’d pick someone like Heavy Machinery using the argument that they want to give Otis’ feud with Dolph some hardware to fight over alongside the heart of Mandy Rose. Pick: Heavy Machinery
Kyle Decker: I don’t have the numbers to back it up, but it feels like more often than not, a champion retains in these type of matches. And Miz & Morrison just won the things. They can’t lose them this soon. Pick: Miz & Morrison
Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Chicanery abounds, our two heel teams dominate, and the reigning champs retain. Pick: The Miz & John Morrison
Cain A. Knight: You never know with the Usos and New Day, but I don’t really see any urgency to take the titles off the new champs. I know things can get hectic with so many people inside the chamber, but this one could easily be the best fight on the card. WWE made the right choice in booking this match instead of a chamber match with Reigns and Corbin. Pick: The Miz & John Morrison
Stella Cheeks: Miz and Morrison just won the titles and, frankly, haven't had done anything with them. I expect them to retain the titles until Mania. After their performance on Smackdown, Heavy Machinery is sure to put up a crazy fight, but Miz and Morrison have no scruples and will win one way or another. Pick: Miz & Morrison
Braun Strowman vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Cesaro & Sami Zayn
Geno Mrosko: They could do a title change here but it wouldn’t make much sense to do so. Pick: Braun Strowman
Sean Rueter: Sean is probably on his scenic Alaskan train ride right now. I hope it’s more Polar Express and less Snowpiercer. Though creepy animated Tom Hanks would be no walk in the park either. If he weren’t, he’d surely pick Zayn, Cesaro, and Nakamura. His love for those guys would obviously overcome the fact that they’re clearly getting fed to Braun Strowman in humiliating fashion. Pick: Team Sami
Kyle Decker: We’re not going to like it, but Braun Strowman is about to beat these three talent wrestlers in a handicapped match. Sami Zayn will be taking the pinfall most likely. Pick: Braun Strowman
Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Big handicap match with a babyface monster champ. Please, you could call this one in your sleep. Pick: Braun Strowman
Cain A. Knight: I’ve been dumping on Braun Strowman’s push for years, and this match is the embodiment of my argument and frustration. Vince McMahon is going to have the big dude humiliate three super talented guys who are better than him at most or all pro wrestling skills. And for what purpose? So that Braun can go get knocked out by Tyson Fury again in a rematch? This match is dumb. Pick: Braun Strowman
Stella Cheeks: :( Pick: Braun Strowman
The Street Profits vs. Seth Rollins & Murphy
Geno Mrosko: They managed to take a match that was a fresh just over one week ago and made it stale. Pick: The Street Profits
Sean Rueter: So this one is one of those toss ups that Sean would decide to get cute with and pick someone not even in the match. He’d say something like “The AOP are the team to have the titles anyway, so they’ll be subbed in the match last minute” or something ridiculous like that. Pick: AOP
Kyle Decker: So Sean above isn’t correct about the AOP winning the match. It’s really stupid for him to think that. However, he is right about one thing. The AOP are the team that should be holding the titles in that stable. In order to properly do that, they need to beat a babyface team. That’s the Street Profits. Then they can lose to AOP and AOP can feud with the Viking Raiders. Pick: The Street Profits
Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Can I just talk a second about how proud I am to see the Street Profits finally get going? I never thought much of them in NXT at first, but their time in Evolve as the Evolve Tag Team Champions really honed their skills, and it’s great to see them do their thing on the big stage now. Anyway, mark hat on, I can’t vote against my boys here. Go suck eggs, Seth. Pick: The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford)
Cain A. Knight: It wouldn’t surprise me at all if WWE put the titles on the Street Profits earlier this week just because they needed to fill out this card, and so now they’ll put the titles back on Rollins and Murphy. The Monday Night Messiah should probably have some kind of gold around his waist heading into WrestleMania. Pick: Seth Rollins & Murphy
Stella Cheeks: Street Profits ain’t gonna let no fake Messiah ruin their party! They worked tirelessly making tons of terrible WWE creative watchable and, frankly, enjoyable! They deserve their WrestleMania moment. Pick: Street Profits.
Andrade vs. Humberto Carrillo
Geno Mrosko: They clearly have a strong belief in Andrade and don’t feel the same about Carrillo. Pick: Andrade
Sean Rueter: This match has probably turned into a tag team match more than it hasn’t. It’ll probably be on the preshow so it’ll likely happen again. But this time, they’ll make it a trios match to really shake things up. Pick: Andrade, Angel Garza, & Big Show
Kyle Decker: Wait, are they really running this match again? Or did I hit my head real hard and this is all a dream? I know they want to get Carrillo over but he’s not catching on like Andrade (or Garza). Pick: Andrade
Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Andrade’s the guy. Give him his names back! Pick: Andrade “Cien” Almas
Cain A. Knight: It looks to me like Andrade’s push could be threatened due to the rise of Angel Garza, unless WWE makes them a regular duo in the tag division. Pick: Humberto Carrillo
Stella Cheeks: Andrade is back and needs to make a statement. What better way to make a statement than to have him beat the guy he’s already beaten like 1,000,000 times. Pick: Andrade
AJ Styles vs. Aleister Black
Geno Mrosko: One of these two is setting up a match against The Undertaker. The other has no clear plan for the biggest show of the year. One plus one still equals two, right? Pick: AJ Styles
Sean Rueter: AJ lost to one unscheduled legend at the last PPV. Why stop there? I know that the match is a scheduled one on one between Black and Styles, and yes I know he’s dead, but dammit, I’m going with it. Pick: Bruno Sammartino
Kyle Decker: Outside AJ losing to Undertaker in a jacket, I don’t think he’s lost a feud in a while. If he’s facing Taker, he’s winning tonight. Pick: AJ Styles
Rev. Claire Elizabeth: Thank god we’re not in Saudi Arabia any more and the Shane McMahon Best in the World Precedent doesn’t apply, saving us from Undertaker waltzing in and picking up another win over AJ. I have no idea, though. All logic and reason says Styles is winning, but I can’t help but feel like the WWE move is to give Black his win back. So... Pick: Aleister Black
Cain A. Knight: I would normally be stoked for this match, but not in this context, where AJ Styles isn’t doing much physical work in the ring and it’s just a backdrop to a worse match at WrestleMania between Undertaker and Styles. Black could win if Undertaker interferes, otherwise he’ll lose. Pick: AJ Styles
Stella Cheeks: Aleister Black is basically undertaker light. Let’s just call it a warm up. Pick: Aj Styles
That’s how we see the card playing out.
You?
