As we’re all aware by now, WrestleMania 36 will be the first one held without a live audience watching the action.
That’s disappointing and a challenge for everyone who performed on the shows (did we mention there are two nights of WrestleMania this year? And that it was actually filmed last week for broadcast on Sat., April 4 and Sun., April 5?). But it might be most disappointing for people working their first ‘Mania, or returning after a long absence. And for wrestlers who could be set to get the biggest rub of the year during this year’s Showcase of the Immortals.
2020 Royal Rumble winner Drew McIntyre falls into that last category. He’s probably going to main event one of this weekend’s shows, and many of us think he has a pretty good chance to beat Brock Lesnar and become WWE champ.
It’ll be a bummer there’s no one there to cheer him should the rare honor of beating Lesnar. But, inspired by videos fans in the UK made when he won the Rumble, Drew is calling on us to help him make a moment should be become the first Brit to hold one of the company’s top belts.
He made the ask in The Mirror:
“I saw all of the videos of people celebrating when I won the Royal Rumble, in Glasgow, and in Liverpool, and in London, but what I want everyone to do for me this time is film yourselves in your living room, or wherever you may be, and if I pull off the big win, I want to get those videos posted on social media. I want to put it out to the whole world, and the UK especially, I want everyone to film their reaction to watching my WrestleMania match at home. We can’t celebrate in the pubs, or in the arena, but I want everyone to film their reaction if I pull this off!”
If quarantine’s taught us anything, it’s that people love social media challenges. So have your phones ready on Saturday or Sunday (probably Sunday), and get ready to celebrate a virtual WrestleMania moment with Drew.
