Tomorrow’s NXT to have a ‘modified format’

PWInsider says they heard “rumblings” the episode of NXT set to come our way from a closed set at the Performance Center tomorrow night (Mar. 18) wouldn’t be live, so they reached out to WWE about it.

Here’s what they got back from the company:

“Tomorrow night’s NXT will air as regularly scheduled in a modified format with elements ranging from in-depth character profiles and story breakdowns as well as never-before-seen interviews and content.”

Which, sounds an awful lot like a mix between a TakeOver Pre-Show and what we’ve gotten on the last two episodes of Raw and SmackDown.

It’s not terribly surprising. The red and blue brand’s Mar. 13 & 16 broadcasts seemed like works in progress. More than that, we don’t know when or even if the big matches NXT was building to for their next big event will take place. All we know now is that the WrestleMania weekend show which was supposed to happen on Sat., April 4 “will not take place” in Tampa Bay.

Sure enough, the two segments NXT set up last Wednesday for the Mar. 18 episode - a celebration of Adam Cole becoming the longest reigning NXT champion in history, and a qualifier between Candice LeRae & Mercedes Martinez for a spot in a six woman #1 contender ladder match - are no longer featured on the black-and-gold brand’s WWE.com show page (they were there yesterday).

Wrestler Observer’s Dave Meltzer added another detail - no live matches:

Lots up in the air, obviously, but this could be a tough sell when AEW is still promoting the same line-up they announced last week. We’ll see what Triple H & company come up with.
