The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, held a press conference today in order to address his state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic. This is relevant to wrestling fans because WrestleMania 36 is scheduled to take place on April 5 in Tampa, Florida.

Here is what DeSantis had to say about mass gatherings:

“Based on the recommendations of our health officials here in the state of Florida, I am recommending to local municipalities and private entities to strongly consider limiting or postponing mass gatherings in the state of Florida.”

“If a mass gathering is not canceled, and I don’t have the authority as governor to order all mass gatherings canceled, but if it’s not, you need to have organized screening measures in place.”

To be clear, this is only a strong recommendation from the governor to cancel mass gatherings; it’s not an order. We’re still awaiting word later today for some official word about what will happen with WrestleMania 36, but this doesn’t bode well for the event taking place as scheduled.
