On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed some changes that are coming to WrestleMania 36. The original card was rumored to include Roman Reigns challenging Bray Wyatt for the Universal championship, as well as John Cena vs. Elias. Goldberg was not planned for the card.
Last week it was then rumored that both of those matches were off.
Here is Meltzer with the latest update on WrestleMania 36:
“The top two SmackDown matches are gonna be Bill Goldberg against Roman Reigns, so Bill Goldberg is on WrestleMania now, and John Cena against Bray Wyatt.”
If this is true, it makes way more sense than wasting a Cena match on Elias. It’s not surprising to see Goldberg added to the card given his recent ratings success and apparent star power.
The main question is, which of these two matches will be for the Universal championship? If the Fiend defeats Goldberg today (Feb. 27) at Super ShowDown to retain the gold, then perhaps John Cena will win the upcoming Elimination Chamber match on Mar. 8 to earn a title match at WrestleMania 36. Alternatively, if Goldberg defeats the Fiend for the title later today, then Roman Reigns could be the man standing tall inside the Elimination Chamber match.
How do you feel about these WrestleMania changes, Cagesiders?
