Triple H wrestled zero matches in 2020

The year 2020 is coming to an end in the United States in just a few hours, so I think it’s safe to make the following observation: Triple H wrestled in zero matches in 2020. There are no more WWE television shows airing this year, so unless The Game defeats R-Truth for the 24/7 title some time tonight, he’ll have no matches on his ledger for 2020.

This is the first time since Triple H joined WWF in 1995 that he has gone a full year from January through December with zero matches. His closest call up to this point occurred in 2015 when Triple H only had one match on the calendar, and that was a win over Sting at WrestleMania 31. Triple H has wrestled a minimum of four matches per year since that low point (counting house shows), but things have changed in 2020.

Earlier this year, I noted that Triple H missed competing at WrestleMania for the first time since he was injured in 2007. That’s probably because WrestleMania 36 took place inside an empty warehouse thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. There was no need for Triple H to work that show. And with the pandemic persisting for the remainder of the year, it turns out that there was no need for Triple H to wrestle on any remaining 2020 pay-per-view.

According to the data at CageMatch, Triple H’s most recent matches occurred in Tokyo, Japan, in June 2019. He teamed up with stars like AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura across two separate nights of action.

The Cerebral Assassin is now 51 years old, and it’s at least possible that the ongoing pandemic will continue to minimize his incentive to wrestle for however long it keeps paying customers out of venues throughout 2021.

Do you expect to see Triple H wrestle a match in 2021? Or is this going to be the norm for him going forward?
