Dec. 25 is a Friday this year. SmackDown airs on Fridays. WWE didn’t go all humbug on their employees & contractors and force them to show up at the ThunderDome on Christmas night, instead opting to pre-tape this week’s edition of the blue brand on Tuesday (Dec. 22) afternoon.
Which means there are spoilers out there for a pretty big show, seeing as WWE loaded the TLC fallout episode up with three title matches in an effort to entice folks to keep their sets tuned to Fox after the Christmas afternoon NFL game.
Here are those spoilers...
- Roman Reigns def. Kevin Owens in a steel cage match to retain the Universal championship.
Shockingly, the cage did not prevent Jey Uso from getting involved. He handcuffed Owens to the cage from the outside, allowing his cousin to walk out and keep his title.
- Asuka & Charlotte Flair def. Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair and Bayley & Carmella in a triple threat elimination match to retain the WWE Women’s Tag titles
Sorry, Riott Squad fans. Ruby & Liv weren’t even part of the pre-match segment that set up the new champ’s first title defense after winning the belts from Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax to on Sunday. BayMella were eliminated first when Sasha pinned Bayley after a frog splash. The Role Model returned to take out The Boss so that Bianca had no one to tag. She took Natural Selection to end the match. Riott Squad were shown awkwardly watching on a monitor backstage, so there's that.
- Street Profits got some screen time to help hype the main event, giving Sami Zayn an “I Was Intercontinental Champion” shirt to replace his “I’m the Intercontinental Champion” one.
- Daniel Bryan def. Jey Uso. Jey jumped D-Bry during his entrance, but the babyface insisted on wrestling anyway. He overcame thanks in part to a leg "injury" that limited Uso in the match.
- Big E def. Sami Zayn in a lumberjack match to win the Intercontinental Championship. Sami tried to escape, of course, but the face lumberjacks carried him back for the finish.
A babyface celebration closed the show.
