Raw tag team championship match

New Day (c) vs. The Hurt Business

Three months ago, Cedric Alexander changed the course of his career when he turned on Ricochet and Apollo Crews and became a member of The Hurt Business. The success that Alexander has achieved while allied with MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin has resulted in a new swagger and a much higher level of confidence.

That confidence and swagger might be getting a bit out of control, though. Alexander and Benjamin received a shot at the New Day’s tag titles on the Nov. 23 episode of Raw. They fell short of winning the gold because Shelton Benjamin was counted out. This unsatisfying finish to a championship match did not sit well with anybody, so the New Day immediately granted the Hurt Business another shot at the titles. The Hurt Business failed once again, this time because Shelton Benjamin was pinned. That’s two title shots in one night blown by Benjamin, essentially. Cedric Alexander was clearly not happy about his partner’s performance.

One week later, Cedric decided to take matters into his own hands by competing against Xavier Woods in a singles match. One lumbar check later, and Cedric found himself in the winner’s column. In doing so, Cedric demonstrated that he’s not the weak link on his team.

Benjamin tried to match his partner’s feat on the Dec. 7 episode of Raw when he took on Kofi Kingston in a singles match. But Benjamin was eventually hit with Trouble in Paradise and pinned by the former WWE champion.

Alexander immediately challenged Kingston to another singles match, and he was able to accomplish what Benjamin failed to do thanks to another lumbar check.

That’s pretty much the crux of the story here. Alexander’s ego is getting out of control due to his recent streak of success, and he is growing impatient with his partner’s failures. They will have one more shot to get the job done against the New Day at TLC 2020. If Benjamin can’t hold up his end of the bargain this time, it might be a breaking point for Alexander.
