WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR DEC. 18
So what you wanna know, calamity’s child, where’d you wanna go? What can I do for you? Looks like you’ve been there too, so I’m gonna just go ahead and liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with a recap of last week’s main event happenings.
Kevin Owens makes his entrance and calls Roman Reigns out.
He cuts a promo about how Roman sent a message to his family last week and spoke with them and told them not to watch this week because of the violence he’s going to do. He runs Reigns down for using his own family as pawns and calls him a coward.
This gets Paul Heyman to appear on the tron.
He says Roman comes out on his own time and he’s here to confess his own sins. He says he was wrong about Kevin Owens, he thought he was a masochist, which is fine because Roman Reigns is a sadist. But no, Owens is a martyr, so he needs to be eradicated. KO says he’s had enough of his BS and he’s not listening to another word.
Instead, he’s going to the back to go find Roman Reigns!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is chasing after Kevin Owens backstage, begging him to lay off of Roman Reigns because Tables, Ladders, & Chairs is this Sunday.
KO isn’t listening, and he bangs on Reigns’ door, only for his entrance music to hit and for the Big Dog to make his entrance in the arena.
He gets on the mic and tells Owens he doesn’t want to hurt him or his family, but he’s running around here telling the whole world he’s a bad guy. But he’s not, he’s just doing the things you have to in order to be The Guy, and that’s above KO’s paygrade and he should stay in his lane. And to show that he’s a good guy, he’s going to give Kev the same chance he gave his own flesh and blood— acknowledge him as your tribal chief or you won’t even make TLC.
Owens leaves the door backstage as Roman continues, telling him to apologize and tell him the words he wants to hear. KO comes down the aisle and Jey Uso blindsides him! They brawl in the entryway and Roman comes down to add some stomps of his own! Laying forearms in on the back of his head, Pearce and fellow road agents Pat Buck and former ROH World Champion Jamie Noble come down to break it up but they’re all afraid to get in Roman’s way!
We go to break on the promise of a tag team championship match.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw.
We see Jey Uso telling Roman Reigns that Kevin Owens got the message now, but the Big Dog doesn’t think so. He knows he’s not gonna listen, so he tells Uso to take him out, because he doesn’t want to see him anymore.
Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode vs. Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) (c) (WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship)
Dawkins and Roode to start, Ziggler runs interference and Robert takes control. Quick tag, off the ropes, Angelo cuts them off and tags Ford in! Stereo dropkicks, Montez with a cover for two, running kick to the back, Dolph with a schoolboy for two, Montez with a suplex and a standing moonsault!
Clear the apron, up top, Ziggler cuts him off, jockeying for position and Roode ends up knocking him to the floor to send us to break!
Back from commercial, the heels are in control and working Ford over in the heat segment. Targeting the ribs, eventually Montez gets Ziggler on the floor and trips Roode up, carving out a path for himself! Tag made, Dawkins in hot with lariats, off the ropes, big corkscrew elbow, pop-up drop for Dolph!
Exploder suplex lays Roode out and he’s fired up! Spinning Stinger Splashes, alternating corners, off the ropes, rolling butterfly neckbreaker gets a deep two on Robert! Jockeying for position, tag to Zigler, leapfrog Fameasser... SO CLOSE! Dolph tuning up the band, superkick blocked, off the ropes... SKY HIGH!
Tag to Ford, up top... CASH OUT! BUT THE KNEES ARE UP! Slow to cover... ROODE BREAKS IT UP! Roode with a nearfall off a victory roll and a handful of tights, Montez rolls him up...
Street Profits win by pinfall with a schoolboy and a handful of tights from Montez Ford on Robert Roode to retain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
Post-match, the heels try to explain why they were cheated but referee Charles Robinson is unmoved and tells them they’ll be suspended if they keep screaming in his face.
We get a recap of Carmella breaking a bottle over Sasha Banks last week.
Backstage, referee Jessika Carr and five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce are walking Kevin Owens out of the building when Jey Uso comes out of nowhere with a steel chair and beats him down, ordering him to stay down!
Carr and Pearce help Owens up and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Bianca Belair is interviewed backstage.
She takes issue with the notion that Bayley is a role model, but says that she’s wanted to face her ever since she came to SmackDown, because she’s the measuring stick.
We get an inset promo from the Riott Squad talking about who Billie Kay might have to team against them tonight, wherein Liv Morgan’s head is in the clouds.
Billie takes over ring announcing duty for her partner, since her resume says she can, and introduces her partner tonight as Tamina.
Billie Kay & Tamina vs. Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott)
Tamina and Morgan to start, Snuka throwing her across the ring and choking her in the corner. Tag to Riott, she makes a valiant effort but gets run over by a lariat for two! Taking her time, shoving Ruby to the mat, Kay with a blind tag, Samoan Drop but the delay because Tamina didn’t know she tagged in gives Morgan ample time to be ready to make the save!
Morgan in, double dropkicks clear the apron, Morgan up top...
Riott Squad win by pinfall with a missile dropkick / reverse STO combination on Billie Kay.
We see Carmella backstage with her sommelier to send us to break.
Back from commercial, the sommelier is in the ring setting up a table with various bottles of champagne on it.
We get a recap, and then Carmella makes her entrance.
Carmella gets on the mic and talks about how she’s gonna beat Sasha Banks at TLC, explaining why she thinks as much at length. She says Sasha’s gonna have to fight her true instincts to go wild and tear her apart, and she can’t win that fight. And then she’s gonna lose it, because if she’s not the Boss, who is she?
Nothing lifts her spirits more than fine champagne, she says, and her sommelier gives her a glass. She says it tastes cheap and frantic, much like Sasha Banks.
Sasha’s entrance music plays and she appears in the ring behind her! She drinks some champagne, throws the glass at her, and takes Mella down! Bank Statement applied but the sommelier pulls her off and the Boss slaps him! Carmella breaks another bottle across Sasha’s back to stop her attack! She takes the clips out of her hair and stands tall.
We go to the trainer’s room, where Jey Uso attacks Kevin Owens again, slamming him through a table!
And so we go to break.
Otis Dozovic vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
A bit of light mat grappling in the feeling out, Dozovic with a big slam, falling headbutt, Nakamura feints him out to the apron and hammers him with knees. Otis comes back, big lariat, pop-up drop, discus lariat and he’s fired up! Setting him up, he goes for the Caterpillar but Chad Gable pops up on the apron to tell him to do a suplex instead!
Dozer goes for it but Shinsuke gets a small package for a tight two! Otis hits the exploder suplex and goes up top...
Otis Dozovic wins by pinfall with a Vader Bomb.
Sami Zayn is backstage in a red suit berating a crew member to not screw his awards up. Zayn leaves, and a giggling Big E rolls up to screw Sami’s awards up, because of course.
We go to break on a weird video package of Drew McIntyre defeating 2020.
Back from commercial, we get some hype for tonight’s edition of Talking Smack.
Chad Gable is backstage giving Otis Dozovic another of his patented and confusing pep talks about how he needs to do what he means, not what he says, and he should hydrate.
Sami Zayn makes his entrance and takes position at a podium.
He talks about how the Slammy Awards have gone downhill and shows us a 2020 year in review video focused around himself before getting to his awards.
The Sami for Comeback of the Year goes to... Sami Zayn!
The Sami for Match of the Year goes to... Sami Zayn beating AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy at Clash of the Champions!
The Sami for Superstar of the Year goes to... Big E?!
He comes down and accepts his award while Sami sputters and fails to remove him from the podium at first. Zayn shoves him and tries to announce a new winner but E cuts him off and smashes him into a table before throwing him down the ramp! Big takes his Sami Award and smashes it on the ground!
Bayley is interviewed backstage and she minimizes Bianca Belair’s achievements, saying she did many of the same things but she doesn’t brag about it.
Belair makes her entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get some hype for next week’s Slammy Awards.
Bayley vs. Bianca Belair
Bayley trying for an easy win, Belair evades her with ease and blows a kiss! Bayley with a stomp to the foot, Bianca returns the favor, but gets her arm wrenched in the ropes until referee Jason Ayers issues his count. Belair off the ropes, shoulder block, drop down, leapfrog, Bayley to the apron and she hangs Bianca throat first over the top rope!
Belair with a legsweep, cover for two, up and over in the corner, dropkick, kip-up and the EST is rolling! Handspring, Bayley trips her up and smashes her arm into the apron and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Bayley is in control and throws Belair out of the ring. Bianca shoves her into the steel steps and rolls back inside. Bayley back in at the count of eight but her hips are bugging her and they meet with forearms. Both women down and out, Bianca back first, strikes in the corner, delayed vertical suplex with squats and she still finds the gas to kip-up!
Arm wrenches, arm wringer, handspring moonsault... NOPE! Backbreaker connects, Belair holds on and hits a ribbreaker... STILL NO! Dragging her into position, Bianca goes up top, but she gets cut off! Bayley doing squats with a suplex cued up, Belair reverses into a suplex of her own! Bayley hangs her up in the opposite turnbuckles and lines her up, only to get flapjacked into the turnbuckles!
Bianca with a spinebuster... SO CLOSE! Bayley trips her up, folding press with her feet for leverage but referee Jason Ayers catches it and halts his count! Bayley-to-Belly denied, Bianca stacks her up, two count, deadlift powerbomb reversed, rake of the eyes, Bayley traps the arm...
Bayley wins by pinfall with her Bus Driver.
Commentary hypes up the TLC card as it stands.
Roman Reigns makes his entrance, flanked by Jey Uso and Paul Heyman, holding his Universal Championship high and sending us to break.
Back from commercial, Roman Reigns calls Kevin Owens out and starts berating him for not just taking the payday and feeding his family.
Enter Kevin Owens, limping his way to the ring.
Jey Uso rushes to meet him but KO grabs a chair and hammers him with it! He gets in the ring and brawls with Reigns, but Jey returns and superkicks him before he can hit the Stunner! Roman hits the spear! Uso slides a table in the ring as his cousin continues to wail on Kev with the steel chair! They set the table up and Roman throws Owens into a slam from Jey that puts him through the table!
Another table is in position as they continue to attack him... ROMAN SAMOAN DROPS HIM THROUGH THE TABLE! Jey goes and gets a ladder as the Big Dog buries KO in table fragments before adding the ladders into the mix. With Owens well and truly down, Reigns and Uso leave.
We see them arrive in Gorilla Position where an interview is waiting and we see Kev stirring.
Roman offers her one question but gets distracted as he sees KO get up on a chair and call him out. Owens says nothing he or his family do can keep him down, and at TLC he’s gonna take the Universal Championship or he’s gonna die trying.
That’s the show, folks.
