WWE Raw results, live blog (Nov. 23, 2020): Survivor Series fallout

WWE Monday Night Raw comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Nov. 23, 2020) from the ThunderDome at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, with all the fallout from the Survivor Series pay-per-view (PPV) that went down just last night at the very same venue.

Advertised for tonight: Drew McIntyre lost to Roman Reigns but will Randy Orton be coming back for another crack at the WWE championship? Sheamus is also lurking in the wings with whatever storyline they recently got going. Asuka needs a challenger for her title after losing to Sasha Banks, and so much more!

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the Raw live blog kicks off once the show starts on USA. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)

There was a time, a wind that blew so young. For this could be the biggest sky, and I could have the faintest idea, but now? I’m just here to liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with a recap of Drew McIntyre winning the WWE Championship from Randy Orton last week.

Five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is in the ring with Raw’s men’s Survivor Series team.

He gets on the mic and recaps the week and puts Team Raw over for their clean sweep, saying results like that deserve rewards, like a title shot, and they’re gonna figure that out tonight.

Sheamus congratulates his pal Drew McIntyre on his victory, and since they go way back and he was the most valuable player last night...

AJ Styles cuts him off and asks if he really said that, before claiming that HE’s the team MVP.

This gets Keith Lee to interject, pointing out how he saved AJ last night and pinned Jey Uso, SmackDown’s *actual* captain, so clearly he deserves the title shot.

Matt Riddle says that he would like to be WWE Championship, and wonders if beating King Corbin makes him King Bro, and if he gets a crown. And then, if he beats Drew McIntyre, he could get that dope sword and it’d go great with his dope crown.

Sheamus calls him a dope and Riddle says after he wins the title, he’ll let him hold his sword and crown and title belt. Sheamus is mad that Matt called him Fireface, but Riddle explains he wanted to give him Firecrotch as a nickname but that was taken already.

Pearce prompts Braun Strowman to make his case, last but not least, and Strowman takes issue with being called last, grabbing him by the lapels and shaking him before headbutting him to the mat!

And on that note, we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw, because Raw is three hours long. (Three hours long.)

Commentary throws to some backstage footage from earlier today that sets up a Hurt Business tag title match against New Day, wherein Cedric Alexander cajoles Xavier Woods into putting the titles on the line by invoking their loss at Survivor Series.

Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin) vs. New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) (c) (WWE Raw Tag Team Championship)

Benjamin with a double leg, mounted punches, riding Woods, hard knees and throwing him around to boot! Off the ropes, X runs right into a pump kick! Big knee knocks Kingston to the floor and we go to break!

Kingston off the top with a right hand, a dropkick, off the ropes, leaping lariat! Fired up, Boom Drop, Shelton ducks Trouble in Paradise, passes him to the corner but runs into a boot!

Jockeying for position, Kofi knocks him down but Alexander pulls Kingston off the top turnbuckle and to the floor! Woods checks on his pal, referee John Cone counts, Shelton is just a beat too late...

The match goes to a double count-out draw.

Montel Vontavious Porter gets on the mic and demands that John Cone restart the match because nobody wants it to end like that. New Day chat amongst themselves about it but return to the ring, and we’re on!

...after the break, that is.

Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin) vs. New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) (c) (WWE Raw Tag Team Championship)

Eventually Kofi manages to dump Hurt Business to the floor and crawl, desperately for the tag... BUT CEDRIC PULLS WOODS OFF THE APRON! Kingston with boots up, SOS on Benjamin... NOPE! Alexander tags back in, big chop block, back to the work on the leg! Kofi gets the tag and Woods comes in hot! Leg lariat wipes Cedric out, pass Shelton to the floor, dropkick/senton takes both guys out!

Back inside, military press drop on Alexander... NO GOOD! Cedric gets a tornado DDT, tag to Benjamin, he comes in with the Olympic Slam... AND KOFI BREAKS IT UP! The match breaks down, Kingston passs Alexander to the floor and destroys him with a slingshot senton atomico, Woods thinks fast...

New Day win by pinfall with a sunset flip from Xavier Woods on Shelton Benjamin to retain the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship.

Five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is interviewed upon leaving the trainer’s room.

He says he’s sent Braun Strowman home and if it were up to him, he’d fire him and we’d never see him again.

Asked what his decision on who Drew McIntyre’s next challenger is, Bobby Lashley rolls up to make the case that he should be considered, and he wants to chat with Pearce about it, and we go to break.

Back from commercial, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is interviewed.

He says Bobby Lashley brought him some compelling evidence and—

Randy Orton rolls up to chat with him, so no decision just yet.

A recap of our opening segment follows, because I have a migraine and WWE is trying to punish me.

Lana is interviewed about being sole survivor last night.

She talks about how great she feels and how last night was a crowning moment in her career and the notion that she might have earned herself a title shot is breached.

Back to Adam Pearce, he wants to settle the question of #1 contender to the WWE Championship in the ring. So there’s gonna be three singles matches tonight, the winners of which will go onto a three-way match next week to determine Drew’s next opponent.

And our first match will be after the break.

Matt Riddle vs. Sheamus (WWE Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Semifinal Match)

Circling, bickering, Riddle calls Sheamus a muppet and earns a shove! Looking for a sleeper hold, the Celtic Warrior blocks and takes him down into a front chancery, shift to an armbar, sling Matt off when he goes to counter! Matt back into it with strikes in the corner but Sheamus clubs him down with a lariat! Knee across Riddle’s neck, headscissors, looking for an armbar, Matt with a counter into an armbar of his own!

Sheamus keeps his hands clasped and gets a foot on the ropes for the break! Taking a breather on the floor, back inside and trading strikes with Matt, Sheamus hits a snap suplex for two! Action to the floor, Riddle hits an exploder suplex and rolls the Celtic Warrior back inside for a running senton that gets a nearfall!

Chest kicks follow, Sheamus fires back and gets him on the apron for the Beats of the Bodhran! Riddle on the floor, Sheamus happy to take the countout, Zapata gets to seven before Matt makes it back in! Celtic Warrior draws him up, big uppercut, charging into a boot, leaping in but he gets caught by the Irish Curse for two!

Shoulder thrust, posting Riddle in the corner but he sidesteps a charge and Sheamus eats the post himself! More chest kicks, referee Rod Zapata counting because he’s in the ropes! Repositioning him but Sheamus counters, hitting the Alabama Slam as we go to break.

Lana is walking backstage when she runs into Asuka.

Asuka has heard she wants to challenge for the title but Lana begs off. Asuka says she likes challenges, she accepts, and they’ll have a match tonight.

We see Rambling Rabbit scratching out Nikki Cross’ face on an old 8x10 to send us to break.

Back from commercial, commentary is talking about various show happenings.

We go to the Firefly Fun House.

Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss say tonight’s episode is about something truly vile— friendship! Their thesis is that friends will always let you down. There’s a new frog puppet pal who chimes in and Abby doesn’t know him. He introduces himself as the Friendship Frog and says that true friendship lasts forever.

Bray asks Alexa to show Friendship Frog what she’s going to do to Nikki Cross later tonight, and he puts the Heal glove on her forehead before whispering something to her. Red lights some up, she gets Fiend eyes and beats Friendship Frog until he vomits up green goo. Bray leads us in remembering Friendship Frog, and we get a montage of photos of his life, from when he was just a tadpole all the way to moments ago.

Bray says it’s a real shame that he, uh... croaked, and he and Alexa laugh and laugh about it before waving goodbye to us.

Asuka makes her entrance to send us to break.

Back from commercial, we get a hype reel for Tribute to the Troops.

Asuka wins by disqualification, although no result is announced.

Post-match, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler keep beating on Asuka and go to put her through the table, but Lana makes the save and pulls her away!

Jax gets on the mic and demands that they get back in there and finish what they started, and Shayna Baszler says they’re offering them a tag title match.

Before we can have that match, though, R-Truth does an ad for WWE Shop.

A referee shows up, Drew Gulak smashes him over the head with a Money in the Bank briefcase, but before Gulak can pin Truth, the Fiend’s lights come up and He appears behind Drew.

Gulak runs off scared, and the Fiend removes his mask, revealing himself to actually be Akira Tozawa.

He takes some merch and we go to break.

Asuka & Lana win by pinfall with a folding press from Asuka on Shayna Baszler.

Matt Riddle runs into Montel Vontavious Porter and chats with him about Keith Lee’s match against Bobby Lashley, which is coming up. He’s got a million business ideas for MVP, like pizza-flavored yogurt, Brogurt, and probably other yogurt-related ideas.

MVP tells him he’s not his bro, which gets an “aw” out of Riddle so confounding that Porter stops in his tracks before continuing, saying he appreciates Riddle’s entreprenurial spirit and he wants him to come pitch his ideas to the Hurt Business.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get a recap of the Drew McIntyre / Roman Reigns champion vs. champion match from last night.

Bobby Lashley vs. Keith Lee (WWE Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Semifinal Match)

Keith Lee wins by disqualification.

Post-match, Lee lays MVP out with a rolling elbow!

We get a video package for Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Cross.

Cross is interviewed backstage and says she didn’t give up on Bliss, Alexa gave up on her. She’s been trying to help her for months.

She makes her entrance and we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get some hype for tonight’s edition of Raw Talk.

Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Cross

Cross jawing at her, Bliss slaps her hands and says she wins. She ducks a shot, taunts, drop toehold when Nikki charges in and she goes to the floor. Cross out after her, throwing her back in, they’re set up in opposite corners and Nikki rushes over to stomp a proverbial mudhole in her! Short-arm lariat, maintaining wrist control, Cross hits another one but Alexa laughs and laughs.

A third lariat, smashing Bliss into the mat over and over again, clubbing away at her, screaming at her as she puts her head into the ring over and over again. Wicked seated senton, freight train crossbody, forearms in the corner, referee Darrick Moore counts her off and Alexa breaks down crying in the middle of the ring.

Nikki tries to comfort her, they hug... AND BLISS HITS SISTER ABIGAIL FOR THE WIN!

Alexa Bliss wins by pinfall with Sister Abigail.

Commentary promises us more Undertaker nonsense after the break.

Back from commercial, we get the Undertaker video package that we’ve been getting, with additional footage from last night’s alleged Final Farewell.

Randy Orton makes his entrance to send us to break.

AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton (WWE Championship #1 Contender’s Tournament Semifinal Match)

Styles looking for a flash pin out the gates but Orton manages to fight him off. Circling, whip across, duck the lariat, slide low, big uppercut from the Viper and he scrapes his bootlaces across AJ’s face! Styles with a throat thrust, shoulder blocks in the corner, whip across, big dropkick takes Styles off his feet and gets him a two count!

Randy takes the action to the floor, uppercuts against the barricade, whip across but AJ’s Big Buddy Omos saves him and pops him up onto the apron for a running knee strike! Styles breaks the count and hits Orton’s own back suplex into the announce desk on him to send us to break.

Hanging AJ up in the ropes, Styles turns him around, chop block, fireman’s carry, Randy slips out and hits the back-to-back backbreaker... NOPE! Looking for the hanging DDT, AJ blocks and picks the leg, thinking Calf Killer, Orton fighting it but Styles gets it locked on! Randy reaching, crawling, desperate for the ropes... AND HE GETS THEM!

Snap scoop powerslam for a nearfall, RKO blocked, Styles hits an enzuigiri and Randy rolls out of the ring! Back heel trip on the apron, the Viper sends him back in and the Fiend shows up behind the barricade! Back inside, Styles with a boot up, springboard, knocked down and Orton hits the hanging DDT!

Post-match, the Fiend’s laughter rings out.

That’s the show, folks.
