WWE Network’s “30 Days of the Dead Man” brought us Meeting The Undertaker this weekend. It’s an entertaining 25 minute watch featuring wrestlers telling stories about - you guessed it - the time they met Taker.
Talent from throughout Mark Calaway’s long pro wrestling career is represented. We hear from some of the biggest names in the history of the business like Ric Flair, Steve Austin & The Rock, a handful of today’s stars like Roman Reigns, AJ Styles & Xavier Woods.
Hands down the best story, for my $9.99, comes from Bray Wyatt. Wyatt’s a third generation wrestler who grew up in the business, and his tale is a two-parter. Part one is from his youth, a time time when his dad Mike “IRS” Rotunda brought him and his younger brother [Bo Dallas] behind-the-scenes at a show. Part two is when the Rotunda boys were somewhere around their late teens or early 20s.
“First time I met Undertaker that I can remember, I was a little kid. Came backstage and, you know, Undertaker’s this larger than life character. He’s all dressed up in his gear. And he walked through, came up to my brother and did the - rolled his eyes thing, and my brother got so freaked out that he kicked him in the shin and ran.
Then flash forward like, I don’t know, 15 years later, my brother and I went to a show and he just happened to be there. And I remember he goes, he looks at both of us and he goes, ‘which one of you assholes is the one who kicked me in the shin?’”
Sadly, we don’t get to hear whether or not Bo pulled a Drake Maverick right then and there.
They’re saving that for Meeting The Undertaker: The Sequel, I guess.
