Stephanie McMahon immediately hit the stage to start this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown to kick off this year’s WWE Draft and it was a fairly standard opening round. The top champions stayed put, but one big name made the jump from the red brand to the blue brand.
Here is how the first round shook out:
- Raw: WWE Champion Drew McIntyre
- SmackDown: Universal Champion Roman Reigns
- Raw: Raw Women’s Champion Asuka
- SmackDown: Seth Rollins
- Raw: The Hurt Business
The “Monday Night Messiah” is no more. That’s because of the eight wrestlers selected in the first five picks, Rollins is the only one actually switching brands. It made for a somewhat comedic bent to Stephanie’s proclamation that the landscape of WWE would be changing this evening, but it is a genuinely big deal to have Rollins coming to the blue brand, considering how much he’s been featured on Monday Night Raw over the past year.
In an interview after, he said he would miss seeing the Mysterio family fall apart. But maybe he won’t have to?
