Samoa Joe has not wrestled a match in roughly eight months.
After reportedly suffering multiple concussions in a short time span, as well as being suspended for a Wellness Policy violation, Samoa Joe has not competed in a WWE ring since February. He has instead spent a great deal of time on the Raw commentary team, and was briefly involved in the feud between Seth Rollins and Dominik Mysterio.
There hasn’t been an update on Joe’s status as a wrestler in quite some time, until now. Appearing on the Wilde On podcast, Joe was asked by Taylor Wilde what the future holds for him:
“As of right now I’m enjoying commentary on Raw. It’s been a fun challenge. It’s something very very new, and I’m enjoying that. Obviously I’m not done in the ring by no means. I think right now I’m just kinda exploring things and seeing how I feel about things. And aside from that, doing a lot of voice acting lately, it’s kinda fun and cool...I’m very very fortunate, and I’m very very happy that I’m doing the things that I’m doing right now.”
Joe doesn’t offer a timetable on when he might return to the ring, but it sounds like he has no plans to retire from the ring right now.
Check out the full interview if you want to hear Joe explain why he is so annoyed by the overuse of the words “literally” and “basically”, and also why it’s important for every wrestler to have backup plans in place.
When do you think we’ll see Joe return to in-ring competition?
