WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR OCT. 5
There, on a lonely desert hilltop, the pilgrims huddle closer, waiting for a sign, the coming silver shrine. The arc of space and time. Truth, oh, the truth is never clear, perhaps again next year the hope lives on beneath the blazing sun. One day you’ll come, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this here pro wrestling show, folks.
The show opens into the ThunderDome intro.
Randy Orton cuts a promo in a room somewhere.
He says he doesn’t remember much about the ambulance ride at Clash of Champions, but he remembers the match, and he recounts being attacked by the various legends. He talks about the darkness and pain he felt, and for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction. After the legends’ action at Clash of Champions, he gave them a reaction on Raw.
He talks about beating the legends down in the dark and making them feel like he felt. He says he’s not done until he takes the WWE Championship from Drew McIntyre. Drew wants to cement his legacy? Do it by facing him inside of Hell in a Cell.
Drew barges into the room and attacks Randy, beating him down, telling him he doesn’t need to turn the lights out to beat the hell out of him. He asks Orton what he knows about hell as road agents Pat Buck, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce, and former ROH World Champion Jamie Noble hit the room with a bunch of refs and separate them.
The Viper runs off to send us to break.
Back from commercial we’ve got a trios match.
Asuka, Dana Brooke, & Mandy Rose vs. Lana, Natalya, & Zelina Vega
Natalya and Brooke to start, Neidhart with a side headlock takeover. Shot off, shoulder block, off the ropes, drop down, leapfrog, hip toss blocked, Nattie with an Oklahoma roll for a nearfall. Whip, drop down, back roll into a revolution tijeras, Dana gets two. Tag to Rose, double-team delayed vertical suplex, cover for two.
Basement dropkick, another two, Vega runs interference and pulls Asuka off the apron, which leads Mandy to drag her in. Neidhart takes advantage, hits a mat slam, cover for two. Shoving Rose into the corner, quick tags as the heels begin their control segment. Tags made, Asuka in, running hot, dropping Lana with a lariat, corner hip attack, stack Vega on top of her, kick takes ‘em out, roundhouse kick to Natalya!
Alarm Clock hits Lana, off the ropes, sliding knee, Neidhart breaks it up! Brooke hits the ring, handspring back elbow clears Neidhart out and Rose tags in blind. Lana sidesteps the hip attack but turns right around into Mandy’s panth...
Asuka, Dana Brooke, & Mandy Rose win by pinfall with the knee strike from Rose on Lana.
Post-match, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler make their entrance, coming to ringside to surround Lana and Natalya and beat them down! Baszler clears the announce desk... JAX SAMOAN DROPS LANA THROUGH THE TABLE!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, R-Truth is working through his own mock draft.
He postulates that Ninja #1 and Ninja #2 will be first round draft picks when a referee rolls up. A janitor ninja attacks him with a broom, misses, but when Truth runs off he trips over a bucket and the ninja rolls him up...
Drew Gulak wins the WWE 24/7 Championship by pinfall while disguised as a ninja.
We get a recap of Mustafa Ali pinning Montel Vontavious Porter in a six-man last week.
Cut to Ali and his pals backstage chatting when MVP rolls up.
Mustafa thinks he’s here to make excuses but Porter says he isn’t. He says he’s here to talk about the draft, and as an experience vet he knows your career can change like that if you get drafted. Apollo Crews was doing nothing on SmackDown, he goes to Raw and he becomes a champion, and tonight for one night only he’s got an opening in the Hurt Business for one of them.
He knows, they don’t want it, but neither did Cedric Alexander. He sells them on it further by saying that no matter where they end up, if they’re with the Hurt Business, they’re golden. Ali and Crews walk off but Ricochet lingers, lost in thought.
Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy make their entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of the last bit of Mysterio/Rollins/Murphy drama.
In the ring, Rollins bickers with Murphy and demands the microphone, but Buddy speaks.
He says he needs to get something off his chest, and he’s done everything Seth asked of him and more, but if he wants him to keep being his disciple, he needs him to apologize. Not to him, but to Aalyah. Rollins gets in his face and swats the mic out of his hand, growling at him to ask if he understands how their relationship, messiah and disciple, works.
And apologize for what? He went easy on her, and he could have easily exposed all the DMs between them, including the ones where Aalyah revealed her true feelings about her family, feeling ignored in favor of Dominik, and Buddy wants him to apologize?
The babyfaces make their entrance and we get going.
Attacking the heels before the bell, referee Chad Patton waiting for things to calm down, Mysterio with a tilt-a-whirl Russian legsweep and they clear the heels out of the ring! Dominik goes up top, Carrillo off the ropes, tope / plancha combo wipes ‘em out and we go to break!
Buddy Murphy & Seth Rollins vs. Dominik Mysterio & Humberto Carrillo
Back from commercial, the match is in progress and Rollins is working Mysterio over. Cover for one, drawing him up, knocking him back down with right hands, axehandle, stomps, putting Dominik into the corner to work him over. Seth yells at Buddy for trying to tag in when he’s not wanted and Mysterio hammers both with punches.
Rollins with a fireman’s carry gutbuster for two, Carrillo with a hot tag and a springboard back elbow! Striking away, back body drop puts him on the apron, back inside, Buddy snaps off a DDT but Mysterio breaks it up! Dumping Seth to the floor, putting him into the barricade, Murphy dumps him into the crowd and Rollins yells at him for his trouble.
Humberto takes ‘em both out with a tope, kicks for everybody, headed up top but he dives right into a knee from Murphy...
Buddy Murphy & Seth Rollins win by pinfall with a jumping knee strike from Murphy on Humberto Carrillo.
Backstage, five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce is on the phone when Braun Strowman rolls up.
He says he knows Raw Underground isn’t happening tonight but he wants a match for his trouble. Pearce says he can’t give him a sanctioned match, but he’ll rustle him up an unsanctioned exhibition match.
Satisfied by this, Braun stalks off and Keith Lee rolls up.
He tells Adam to sign him up and leaves.
Kevin Owens makes his entrance, he’ll host the Kevin Owens Show with Bray Wyatt after the break.
Back from commercial, Buddy Murphy is angrily pulling the tape off his wrists when Seth Rollins rolls up to yell at him some more.
He refuses to apologize and says they both know that actually, Buddy needs to apologize to him, and in fact if he wants to keep being his disciple, he has until 10PM tonight to do so, or there’ll be hell to pay.
In the ring, Kevin Owens welcomes us to the Kevin Owens Show.
He says he’s usually excited to host it, but tonight’s show has a different feel because he feels different. He’s felt this way for a couple days and he couldn’t put a finger on why, but then he realized, it’s because people are right, and when the Fiend touches you, you change. He feels changed, because Friday on SmackDown was his first time feeling the presence of the Fiend and it’s still with him.
The anger, the agony, the dread, the... he’s at a loss for words but continues, saying tonight’s different because tonight’s show isn’t about having a nice chat and they don’t need chairs. He dismantles the set and says tonight the show is about the replay of the Fiend showing up on SmackDown last week that he plays.
He talks about the feeling of having the Mandible Claw applied to you, and the only thing he cares about right now is Bray Wyatt coming down to have a chat.
Bray appears on the tron inside of the Firefly Fun House.
He greets Kev and says it’s nice of him to have him on the show, and that’s what friends do, so they’re friends now. He talks about all the things friends do together, up to and including burying bodies together, and the puppet pals chime in worried about being separated in the draft. Wyatt says friends stick together, and he wrote a song about it!
He sings his little song about friendship with the puppet pals, but Owens cuts him off and says they’re not friends. They could have been, they could have had a great time together, until he attacked him on Friday, so here we are. Bray gets deadly serious and says this Friday on SmackDown, Kev will know.
KO goes to leave but Aleister Black makes his entrance and lays him out on the ramp with Black Mass!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw, because Raw is three hours long. (Three hours long.)
Charly Caruso is backstage for an interview with Drew McIntyre.
He says every time he’s in the same building as Randy Orton, he’s gonna beat the crap out of him, and as far as Hell in a Cell goes, he asks Orton what the hell is wrong with him but says that the answer to the challenge is yes.
Braun Strowman vs. Keith Lee (Exhibition Match)
Collar and elbow, neither man can budge the other, Lee with a side headlock, shot off, shoulder block, Strowman doesn’t budge! Off the ropes, second try moves him a little but Braun fires off a big man dropkick and sends Keith to the floor! Strowman puts him into the steps but referee John Cone finishes his count...
The match goes to a double count-out draw.
Post-match, Braun pounces Lee through the barricade! Lee recovers and the two big men brawl up to the stage, where Keith pounces him off the stage and through some equipment!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, we get another Bianca Belair vignette, this one about how she’s the smart-EST as she trounces some friends at a trivia game.
A recap of what we saw before the break follows, because we are all dead and this is purgatory.
Drew Gulak is jogging backstage with the 24/7 Championship when he stops backstage to talk about his book he’s writing about preparedness. R-Truth pops up behind him with a referee, he trips into a trash can that Akira Tozawa happens to be in, they brawl Truth throws him into a dumpster, Tozawa climbs in after them and referee Darrick Moore counts a pin.
R-Truth wins the 24/7 Championship by pinfall.
The Hurt Business make their entrance to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Montel Vontavious Porter gets on the mic.
He has an official announcement from the Hurt Business for us and he wants to clear up some confusion about last week— Apollo Crews, Mustafa Ali, and Ricochet did not beat them. Sure they won a match, but they’re never gonna win the fight. They’re so talented that he’s offered them a spot in the Hurt Business, but last week would not have happened without the interference of Retribution, so he’s putting them on notice.
He wants to make it very clear, if they want to run around and play tough, they’re gonna learn to fold when they see the black and gold, and they’re what nightmares are made of.
The babyfaces make their entrance and cut a response promo where they say the Hurt Business lost because Mustafa Ali pushed back. Ricochet interrupts and says he knows MVP gave them until the end of the night to answer, but he doesn’t want to keep them waiting, and his answer is... no.
Porter says he’s gonna be on the business end of hurt, but Ricky says he’s been there for months and he hasn’t run yet. MVP tells his boys to punish Ricochet extra hard tonight.
Apollo Crews & Ricochet vs. the Hurt Business (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin)
Ricochet and Benjamin to start, Shelton clubbing him down, scoop, float out, off the ropes, up and over. Benjamin blocks a tag and grabs an inverted cross armbar but Ricky gets the ropes and forces the break! Babyfaces come back and put the heels on the floor and we go to break.
Back from commercial, the heels are in control and working Ricochet over in the corner. Big delayed vertical and a reverse STO both get nearfalls but Ricky stays fighting as Benjamin tags in. Crews with the tag, coming in hot, the match breaks down, superkicks from Ricochet but Lashley hits the Yokosuka Cutter!
Enzuigiri from Crews, calling for it, military press but Shelton slips out. Big German suplex from Benjamin, tag to Bob, big chokeslam to Apollo, lying in wait...
Hurt Business win by submission with the Hurt Lock from Bobby Lashley on Apollo Crews.
Post-match the other babyfaces hit the ring to pull Crews to safety.
Backstage, we see Buddy Murphy roll up on Aalyah to apologize for this whole thing.
She reassures him that this isn’t his fault and asks if he’s still going to apologize to Seth Rollins. He says he doesn’t know and he walks off.
We get a hype reel for WWE’s partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a hype reel for this year’s WWE Draft.
The Hurt Business are walking and talking backstage when they run into Mustafa Ali, alone.
He says he’s gonna be alone tonight but he doesn’t want MVP to be alone because he wants to take care of Benjamin and Lashley, too.
Seth Rollins makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He calls Buddy Murphy out, saying his messiah awaits his apology.
Buddy makes his entrance and Seth lectures him, saying he doesn’t expect a big production, he just wants his apology, short and sweet. Murphy is quiet and Rollins tells him to spit it out so they can serve the greater good. Buddy has a strained look on his face but again Seth demands he apologize. He talks about plucking Buddy from obscurity and saving his career, and all he has to do is apologize.
But Murphy can’t do it, even as Rollins gets louder and angrier, even as he shouts at him and grabs him by the beard! Buddy’s had enough and he double legs the messiah! Grounded punches, a boot, to the floor and he double legs Seth into the announce table! Wild punches, back and forth, beating on each other against the barricade and into the apron!
Rollins gets a kendo stick but Murphy outmaneuvers him and grabs it for himself, wailing on the Monday Night Messiah with his own weapon of choice! Back in the ring, Seth begs off but Buddy refuses to listen, hitting him with the kendo stick and demanding that HE apologize! Rollins apologizes but Murphy says he doesn’t want the apology, he needs to apologize to Aalyah.
Seth apologizes to her and continues to beg off until Buddy gives him an opening, and then he leaps at his disciple and gouges at his eyes! Kendo stick in hand he beats Murphy down! He goes and gets a chair from the timekeeper’s area and heads back inside, but Aalyah is in the ring tending to Buddy! She tells Seth to stop, Dominik Mysterio coes down to pull her away, followed shortly thereafter by Rey and Angie.
Rollins leaves.
Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are bickering backstage to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw because... reasons... look, y’all, I’m too tired to be clever.
Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Riott Squad (Liv Morgan & Ruby Riott) (WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship)
Jax and Morgan to start, Riott Squad hitting her hard and fast and making quick tags almost immediately! Step-up assisted senton gets two, right hands, tag from Riott, Nia shoves a crossbody aside and Death Valley Drivers Ruby into the Tree of Woe! Arm wringer, Riott Kick blocked, Jax runs interference, Baszler with a big knee strike into the Kirifuda Clutch, Nia catches Morgan...
Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler win by submission with the Kirifuda Clutch from Baszler on Ruby Riott to retain the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Post-match, Liv checks on her teammate.
Street Profits cut a promo backstage about being in the main event tonight and getting their Braveheart on with Drew McIntyre. Drew rolls up and we go to break.
Back from commercial we get some hype for the return of Miz and Mrs. next month.
Montel Vontavious Porter vs. Mustafa Ali
Circling, collar and elbow, Porter with a knee lift and a scoop slam, following it up with a knee drop across the chest for a two count. Drawing Ali up, swatting him down, trading punches with him, whip across and a lariat turns Mustafa inside out! Choking Ali in the corner, he gets a kick that sends MVP to the floor in return!
Montel calls for his boys to hit the ring, referee Shaun Bennett tries to maintain order but the lights flicker and go down and Retribution surround the ring! MVP asks Ali if he’s with them and he circles up with the Hurt Business! Mustafa suddenly breaks and gets in T-Bar and Mace’s faces before turning around and smiling. He orders T-BAR and Mace to get ‘em and Retribution attack!
The match goes to an unannounced no contest, presumably.
They beat the Hurt Business down and lay Bobby Lashley out with the steps!
Ali gets in the ring and is joined by T-BAR, Mace, and SLAPJACK before raising his hand in a gesture of unity.
