Ratings don’t bounce back for AEW’s anniversary show

AEW on Twitter

The ratings and viewership data are in for this week’s (Oct. 14) NXT and AEW television shows.

Per Showbuzz Daily, Dynamite netted 826,000 viewers for a .30 rating point in the 18-49 demographic. NXT checked in with 651,000 viewers for a .17 rating point in the same 18-49 demo.

For AEW, this is an increase of about 73,000 viewers from the prior week, and a decrease from last week’s 0.31 demo rating. For NXT, viewership increased by about 12,000 viewers from the prior week, and the demo rating was up from last week’s 0.16.

AEW increased from 19th to 15th place in the demo rating for the night, while NXT climbed up from 56th to 51st place.

Last week’s numbers were significantly down for both shows due to the fly on Mike Pence’s head that drew over 50 million viewers. AEW did see viewership bounce back above 800,000 this week, but that was not accompanied by a ratings increase. In fact, this was AEW’s lowest demo rating since the end of August.

NXT’s numbers mostly remained stagnant from the prior week. Technically they improved in the demo rating, but they still finished outside the top 50, and a 0.17 is not impressive. Viewership was up a tiny bit from the prior week, but once again, it remains closer to last week’s low point than their better results from September.

I’d say there are clear reasons for both shows to be disappointed with these numbers. AEW had a loaded card with four championship matches for their anniversary show, but they could not recover from last week’s debate-induced lull. NXT wasn’t promoting a big card, but their overall numbers continue to pale in comparison to AEW.
