Batista’s return to WWE in 2014 was botched right from the start, and it led to him leaving the promotion by June of that year. There was a story about WWE ghosting him in 2018, and he hasn’t been shy about expressing his general frustrations with WWE’s misguided decision-making.
WWE finally gave Batista what he wanted in 2019 with a fitting retirement match at WrestleMania 35, and he’s also part of their latest Hall of Fame class. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to forget what happened in 2014.
The latest head-scratcher from that year focuses on WWE rejecting the idea of updating his theme music with free lyrics from Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA:
Here’s some cool background shit for ya! My homie @rza from @WuTangClan was going to add some lyrics to my music to give it an updated feel when I went back in 2014... FOR FREE!!!! And the @WWE said NO. Just another one of my frustrations of the 2014 shit show if a return. https://t.co/pKu2ROmMZx

WWE is very controlling in general, and is particularly finicky when it comes to wrestler theme music, as Keith Lee recently discovered. This is just another scenario where fans will have to wonder about what could have been if WWE wasn’t so inflexible.
Would you have liked to hear updated theme music for Batista in 2014, or was it for the best to leave it alone?
