This is kind of a surprise.

Both AEW Dynamite and NXT on USA returned to their weekly live format for the first time together since Dec. 18. On that night, NXT bested AEW in both total viewership and the all important 18-49 demographic.

Last night (Jan. 8), the TNT brand flipped the script and beat the WWE product by a wide margin.

Per Showbuzz Daily, Dynamite scored 947,000 viewers for .36 rating point in the 18-49 demo. In terms of viewers, January 1 and 8 marked the best back to back weeks for AEW since October 16 and 24.

For NXT, viewers tumbled to 721,000 with .19 rating point in the 18-49 demo. As far a regular live Full Sail show goes, Wednesday night marked the worst NXT performance since an October 30 episode.

Overall on the night for original cable broadcasts, AEW placed sixth while NXT dropped down to 55th.
