Forget CM Punk, what about AJ Lee coming out of retirement?
Since stepping away from the WWE in March 2015, rumors or reports of Lee returning to the squared circle have been few and far between. Just last month, Lee took to Twitter to shoot down the idea of appearing on WWE Backstage with her husband.
So maybe the former three time Divas Champion isn’t interested in doing a Fox Sports spot, but is the door still open for an in-ring return? On WWE’s side of the aisle, the answers seems to be yes.
Speaking on a media conference call to promote this Sunday’s NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool card, via talkSport, Triple H answered a question about Lee and Punk returning to the ring.
“I think what Steph was saying is that in the right circumstances, if it’s good for fans and it’s something that would be good for everybody, then absolutely. They were both phenomenal performers, incredible performers. If it was right for them, for the company, for everyone involved, then absolutely.”
Triple H added:
“In a perfect world, sure. I think you’ve heard Vince (McMahon) echo that statement a million times over the years – never say never. You see people come in and out, performers and talent. If it’s right for fans and everyone else business wise then it’s something that can happen but if it’s not, then it can’t.”
So that’s not a no, but it’s definitely not a yes either.
A few months ago who could have guessed Punk would be involved with pro wrestling in any capacity. So maybe the idea of Lee or Punk returning to WWE as competitors isn’t that far-fetched.
Odds say neither are likely to ever wrestle again, but of the two, would you rather see AJ Lee or CM Punk return to a WWE ring?
