There were a lot of surprises on the first SmackDown of 2020. But the results weren’t too terribly shocking.
On Jan. 3, WWE and Fox saw ratings and viewership that was more or less in line with what they were getting at the end of 2019. The audience was a little bit smaller than last week. Ratings were mostly flat, but they did tick up in the all important 18 - 34 year old demographic. That would usually please all involved, although here it’s mitigated by the fact new episodes of CBS’ Friday night line-up actually tied or beat SmackDown in every demo except 18 - 49 year old men.

As you can see in our chart of the show’s numbers since moving to Fox Fridays (all data via Showbuzz Daily) the latest figures are a move in the right direction, if it wasn’t for younger people suddenly checking out Hawaii Five-O & Magnum P.I.:
