WWE SmackDown results, live blog (Jan. 31, 2020): Intercontinental championship

WWE SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Jan. 31, 2020) from the Bok Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, featuring all the fallout from the Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) that went down this past Sunday night in Houston.

Advertised for tonight: Braun Strowman challenges Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental championship, a tag team title number one contender match, and more!

Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on USA. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)

Now I feel the time is right, love will flow like wine tonight. Give your love and it will come to you, yeah. If you feel that you and me could escape and hold the key to a paradise that’s true and free, yeah. Steal away... Steal away... Steal away the night. You gotta steal it, come on baby, because I’m busy liveblogging this here pro wrestling show.

The show opens with the intro video.

Roman Reigns makes his entrance, followed thereafter by his cousins the Usos.

The Big Dog gets on the mic and says the Royal Rumble came and went, and the good news is he whooped Baron Corbin’s ass all over that baseball stadium. The bad news is... Roman hesitates and the Usos say he lost, he doesn’t like to admit it, but he lost, and Roman says they’re right, but they’re gonna focus on the king and his little bitches and they’re gonna get to WrestleMania.

Enter the King and his little bitches.

Baron starts on the mic, saying the feeling is mutual, but Reigns has to know that without his cousins, he wouldn’t have won on Sunday, and the Usos helped him cheat. In fact, if they hadn’t attacked like savages, Corbin would have won the Royal Rumble, he claims. So tonight he demanded a six-man tag match to make the Bloodline pay for what they did.

Jimmy Uso says Mr. My Head Is Too Big For My Crown is confused about what happened, and the last time they checked, it was superkick to Dolph, superkick to Roode, Superman Punch to Dolph, Superman Punch to Roode, spear to Dolph, and spear to Roode, and all that for Baron too, so they’re playing checkers while the Bloodline are playing chess.

Baron talks about how they embarrassed Roman while the Usos were out, and they play footage of them pouring dog food all over the Big Dog. Roman says they’re living in the past like that’s the greatest moment of their career, either that or they’ve got a dog food fetish. So hey, Reigns will help him out— a stipulation tonight, the loser of the match eats dog food.

Corbin accepts and the Usos ask for a surprise to be brought out— it, of course, is a cart full of wet dog food.

Commentary hypes up our Intercontinental Championship match as well as a rematch between Chad Gable and Sheamus.

Heavy Machinery make their entrance, and they’ve got a four-way #1 contender’s match after the break.

Back from commercial, Heavy Machinery are backstage stewing over their loss when Fire and Desire roll up.

Mandy Rose says she’s sorry about their loss but she wants to thank Otis for all his help in the Royal Rumble. Otis asks her if she’ll go out with him next Friday, but unfortunately she has plans... but she doesn’t have any plans the Friday after. Dozer is happy and Sonya Deville says they have a match and have to go. Tucker’s hyped because the date is on Valentine’s Day!

Cross in hot with forearms, clear the apron, fired up and screaming, Stinger Splash sets up the running bulldog and she beats her chest! Headed up top, crossbody but Deville breaks it up!

Alexa drops Sonya with a hard right, Mandy with a mat slam and a crucifix for Nikki but she’s in the ropes and hits the fisherman neckbreaker after! Tag to Alexa...

Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross win by pinfall with Twisted Bliss from Bliss on Mandy Rose.

We see Braun Strowman walking backstage and get a recap of how he got his title match before going to break.

Back from commercial, the dog food man is stirring the dog food.

Braun Strowman vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (c) (WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Circling, Nakamura ducks a lockup and struts. Cautious kicks, Strowman shoves him aside but the champ keeps sticking and moving. Shoulder block lays him out but Shinsuke goes for a sleeper. Rammed into the corner to break, judo throw, right hands in the corner. Stinger Splash, Sami Zayn trying and failing to run interference on the apron.

Braun lying in wait, running boot misses and Nakamura kicks his leg out from under him! Enzuigiri, falling knees, Good Vibrations and Zayn gets a cheap shot in from the floor! Front chancery applied, Strowman gets to his feet and throws him off but Nakamura hits the heel kick! Hanging Braun’s leg over the middle rope, repeated kicks to the knee and then the chest.

Strowman with a goozle and he clubs the champion down! Shoulder block, shoulder block, a biel, Stinger Splash sets up a clubbing blow and Shinsuke rolls to the floor! Braun chases him and pounces him with a fury! Back inside, Strowman scoops him up but Nakamura slips out, sidesteps the charge, enzuigiri connects. KINSHASA TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD BUT BRAUN KICKS OUT!

Shinsuke can’t believe it, Sami is talking strategy with Cesaro and pops up on the apron to remove the turnbuckle pad and distract referee Dan Engler while Cesaro comes in! But Dan sees him, Braun puts Nakamura into the exposed turnbuckle and hoists him up...

Braun Strowman wins by pinfall with a running powerslam to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Sami Zayn and Cesaro are complaining backstage when an interview rolls up.

Sami berates her while Shinsuke Nakamura stews, but he gets cut off by Elias playing guitar in the ring. Sami fumes for a minute before asking Cesaro to go take care of the situation.

Elias does his usual schtick and goes to play a song when Cesaro makes his entrance to cut him off.

They brawl in the ring, Elias hammering him in the corner but the Swiss Superman gets a boot off for separation. Elias with a lariat, whip across, back body drop, running knee and Cesaro gets dumped to the floor!

We get a video package recapping Sheamus vs. Chad Gable.

Sheamus makes his entrance but Gable blindsides him and we go to break before the match!

Chad Gable vs. Sheamus

Sheamus with a powerbomb lift, Gable slips out, tries for a monkey flip and gets set on the ropes but manages to bodyscissors the Celtic Warrior to the floor! Diving crossbody, caught, hoss him into a fireman’s carry for the Finlay Roll! Back inside, cutthroat, Argentine backbreaker rack and he drops Chad with a slam! Dragging him around the ring, another cutthroat Argentine backbreaker slam!

Gable slips out, trading shots, he hangs Sheamus up over the top rope and yanks him to the apron for forearms while he’s trapped! Headbutt, headed up top, missile dropkick takes the Celtic Warrior off his feet! Up top again, diving moonsault... NOPE! Chaos Theory denied, Sheamus hits the Irish Curse! All over but the shouting...

Sheamus wins by pinfall with the Brogue Kick.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, we get some hype for WWE Backstage.

Bayley makes her entrance and gets on the mic.

She cuts a promo about how good she is and how there’s something about her that can’t be topped. She talks up her achievement in beating Lacey Evans in front of her daughter. A true champion surpasses them all, and she’s beaten everyone, so it’s no surprise that Charlotte Flair’s gonna challenge her at WrestleMania, so let’s get that over with tonight.

Enter Naomi!

She gets on the mic and says now that she’s back she can’t believe the trash talk, and Bayley’s out here bragging about beating everybody, but she hasn’t beat Naomi. And as the former SmackDown Women’s Champion, the title could use some glow. The next chance she gets— BAYLEY CLUBS HER WITH THE TITLE AND BEATS HER DOWN WITH MOUNTED PUNCHES!

But Naomi explodes back at her and knocks her to the floor!

The Usos make their entrance and share a moment with Naomi to send us to break.

Back from commercial, commentary hypes the return of both Bray Wyatt and Daniel Bryan next week.

King Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, & Robert Roode vs. the Bloodline (Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, & Roman Reigns) (Loser Eats Dog Food Match)

Corbin and Jimmy to start, trading chops, Baron with a big forearm for two. Whip across, sunset flip, ramming Corbin into the corner, tag to Jey. Stinger Splash, whip across, Roode with the blind tag and the low bridge! On the floor, spinning spinebuster connects and the match breaks down on the floor as the heels keep Jimmy away from his brother.

Robert throws Jey over the timekeeper’s barricade and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Roode is in control on Jey Uso and working him over with a kneeling surfboard. Shift to a waistlock, Jey breaks with a back elbow and fires off big slicing rights. Robert with a kick to the gut to cut him off, Reigns comes in to jaw at him and Uso hits a leg-feed enzuigiri! Tag to Ziggler, Jey ducks the corner body avalanche and the path is clear!

Both men crawling, struggling, Corbin gets the tag first and blasts Roman off the apron before posting Uso shoulder-first and grabbing a schoolboy pin for two! Whip reversed, leaping lariat, fired up, Roman follows with the corner lariats! Off the ropes for the big boot finale, calling for it but he has to punch Ziggler and Corbin goes outside and back in before countering the Superman Punch into a chokeslam... NOPE! Baron goes after an Uso on the floor before coming over to the dog food to check it out.

Back inside, Big Dog with the slicing rights, Roode runs interference, Baron rakes his eyes and Ziggler hits a superkick... DEEP SIX ISN’T ENOUGH TO MAKE REIGNS EAT THE DOG FOOD! Jimmy Uso in for a dive and he wipes Roode out over the announce table! Superman Punch... DOLPH BREAKS IT UP! Jey with a superkick, off the ropes, he dives on Ziggler and lays him out!

Reigns howls but the spear is cut off with a kick! Lateral press...

The Bloodline wins by pinfall with a lateral press from Roman Reigns on Baron Corbin, forcing him to eat dog food.

Post-match, Corbin tries to run but the Usos get the handcuffs and chain him up much like he and his cronies did to Roman! REIGNS HITS THE SPEAR AND HUGS A CHILD AT RINGSIDE! The Usos drag Baron over and Roman hangs the chain over the ringpost so he’s got nowhere to go! Jimmy and Jey grab some dog food and throw a few cans to Reigns before wheeling the whole tray over.

The Lone Wolf tries to kick the cart over but they stop him short and the Big Dog flings dog food at him with a spoon before the Usos dump a whole tub of dog chow over the 2019 King of the Ring. Reigns grabs the other bucket and dumps it on Corbin also! The Bloodline pose for a series of photo ops in front of a dog food covered Baron Corbin.

That’s the show, folks.
