Maybe it’s the holidays. Maybe Vince McMahon is too busy with XFL business to sign off on the card. Or maybe the late announcements about what action will take place on Raw & SmackDown recently are strategic.
Whatever the reason, WWE didn’t get around to telling us much of anything about tonight’s SmackDown in Memphis until less than 12 hours before the show. It started with news of a tag Triple Threat which will weave the blue brand’s two storylines for their women’s division together - just like last Friday’s “Moment of Bliss” segment did:
TONIGHT on #SmackDown: @itsBayleyWWE & @SashaBanksWWE team up to face @LaceyEvansWWE & @DanaBrookeWWE and @AlexaBliss_WWE & @NikkiCrossWWE!

Then, they booked the logical extension of last week’s main event. Roman Reigns issues with King Corbin took everybody’s favorite monarch out of the running to become #1 contender for Bray Wyatt’s Universal title. Reigns also beat Corbin’s lackey Dolph Ziggler on Fox’s New Year’s Eve broadcast. So the heels will try for payback against The Big Dog and the man who did win the right to face The Fiend at Royal Rumble:
TONIGHT on #SmackDown, it will be a TAG-TEAM MATCH as @WWERomanReigns joins forces with @WWEDanielBryan to battle @BaronCorbinWWE & @HEELZiggler!https://t.co/dbDRXdqVHK
