Rumors and reports indicated Samoa Joe being pulled from the Raw tag team title match on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw was a shoot. He apparently injured himself doing a dive when he landed to the floor on the outside of the ring.
Now, the Wrestling Observer is reporting he suffered a concussion.
While it was played on television like an angle, or part of the story they were telling within the match, it’s been maintained from all reports that that was simply not the case. It is, of course, hugely unfortunate that Joe was injured but it’s at least a good sign that WWE is handling these situations so much better since the Kairi Sane situation at TLC late last year.
Both Alexander Wolfe and Joe suffered concussions and were immediately removed from their respective matches despite that not being in the original plans. We can only hope this is the new standard moving forward, as the health of the performer should be above all else.
This is truly unfortunate for Joe, who only recently returned from a separate injury that had him doing commentary while he was recovering. The Observer reports he will now go through the usual protocol.
