At Royal Rumble, Tom Phillips handled play-by-play for the Raw brand instead of Vic Joseph. That turned out to be an official change to the Monday night commentary team.
Last night, Byron Saxton handled color commentary along with Jerry Lawler. We’re now hearing from PWInsider that’s a permanent move as well.
Raw and SmackDown both went to two-person commentary teams when the blue brand moved to Fox Friday nights in October. It was a move welcomed by a lot of fans who’d tired of the constant bickering that came with WWE’s formula of having heel and face analysts flanking a neutral announcer.
But it looks like that era is over for now, at least on Mondays.
Thoughts?
