During the Royal Rumble PPV on Sunday night (Jan. 26), Pro Wrestling Sheet reported there had been “tense encounter” backstage between Brock Lesnar and Matt Riddle. Nothing physical, but after years of Riddle tweeting about how he was going to retire Brock, Lesnar apparently decided to take the opportunity to give The Original Bro a piece of his mind.
We’ve got a couple new reports on the incident, and it seems more like a one-way communication than the “verbal altercation” Sheet described. “Tense” sounds like the right word, though.
According to sources of TalkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy, Lesnar approached Riddle and grabbed his shoulder to get his attention. The former UFC Heavyweight champ then told the former UFC welterweight:
“Kid, you might as well stop saying my name and tagging me in $#!+ because you and I will never work together. Ever.”
Riddle - no stranger to awkward backstage moments with legends of the business - is said to have tried to respond, but Brock kept moving and didn’t give him a chance to. Fightful says a source described the scene by saying Lesnar’s the “wrong one to f*** with and that Matt “was spoken to by Brock and he understood.”
All the sites confirmed the incident didn’t involve any physical violence.
Riddle, who was tweeting about retiring Brock as recently as Saturday night, was eliminated in just 41 seconds during the Rumble match. This morning, he tweeted this:
