More on AJ Styles’ injury

Reports, and a good old fashioned eye test, told us that AJ Styles was injured in the Royal Rumble match last night (Jan. 26) in Houston.

It’s pretty clear from this clip of him taking Edge’s first spear of the night...

With a little more time for the wrestling web’s best reporters to ask around, we now know a bit more. It’s still along the lines of what you can guess from that video.

Fightful confirmed that The Phenomenal One’s quick elimination was called on the fly as a result of the injury. Wrestling Observer‘s Dave Meltzer said he’s heard Styles suffered a shoulder separation, but the severity was unknown. PWInsider reports he’s headed for tests as soon as possible to confirm the diagnosis and determine how bad it is.

According to a quick web search, if AJ can be treated without surgery his recovery time should be a few weeks to a couple months. If surgery is required, it will obviously be longer.

We’ll keep you posted, and keep a good thought for the Phenomenal One.
