Report: NXT Women’s Championship may undergo a name change

A small change in WWE, but a change nonetheless.

According to Mike Johnson at PWInsider, the NXT Women’s Championship will just be known as the NXT Championship.

“WWE has issued an internal decree that going forward, the WWE NXT Women’s Championship will be referred to and described as simply the “NXT Championship”, PWInsider.com has confirmed. The decision was made to make the remove the gender-specific designation of the championship.”

The report would go on to state that it is unclear if the same gender-less rebranding will also apply to the Raw and SmackDown women’s titles. Many NXT fans noted last night that lead announcer Mauro Ranallo was careful with his words when talking about Rhea Ripley and Toni Storm.

Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch has brought up this talking point of titles going gender neutral twice in the past month. First at the CES 2020 Conference in Las Vegas, The Man mentioned that her mission this year was to remove the word ‘women’ from the term women’s wrestling.

This week on WWE Backstage, Lynch brought up the talking point again.

What do you think about the possible NXT title name change?
