NXT UK spoilers (Jan. 17 - 18, 2019): WALTER & Kay Lee Ray defend, new title belt, Worlds Collide matches set

WWE.com

NXT UK is coming off another well received TakeOver event with Jan. 12’s Blackpool II. They’ve also had an increased presence on the U.S.-based NXT thanks to the battle for brand supremacy coming up at Worlds Collide in Houston this weekend (Sat., Jan. 25).

So their tapings at York Barbican this weekend figured to be a pretty big deal. And they were, with action that determined who will represent NXT UK in a big Worlds Collide title match and both of the brand’s singles titles being defended. One of them even got a name change!

Here’s what happened...

Friday

- WALTER received the new NXT United Kingdom championship belt (replacing the WWE logos with NXT ones). Imperium spoke on Undisputed ERA’s attack in Blackpool.

- Jordan Devlin def. Ligero via pinfall after the Devlin Side Suplex; Devlin gets a spot in the Cruiserweight title Fatal 4Way at Worlds Collide with champ Angel Garza & Isaiah “Swerve” Scott.

- Ilja Dragunov squashed Josh Terry. During a post-match promo hyping his Worlds Collide match with Finn Bálor, Dragunov was interrupted by Joe Coffey. Coffey reminded him he wasn’t part of Gallus and that Ilja’s involvement at TakeOver cost him his match with WALTER. They have unfinished business when the Russian returns from the States.

- Travis Banks def. The Brian Kendrick via pinfall after a Kiwi Crusher; Banks gets the final spot in the Cruiserweight title Fatal 4Way at Worlds Collide.

- Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan def. The Hunt (Primate & Wild Boar) via pinfall after hitting London Bridge

- Eddie Dennis spoke on his win in Blackpool, and was confronted by the man he beat, Trent Seven.

- Isla Dawn def. Nina Samuels via pinfall after a bridging German suplex

- Ridge Holland def. Tyson T-Bone

- Imperium (Marcel Barthel, Fabian Aichner & Alexander Wolfe) defeated Mark Andrews, Flash Morgan Webster & Dave Mastiff; WALTER was out to help his team but was stopped by Mastiff.

- Piper Niven squashed Dani Luna

- Tyler Bate def. A-Kid via pinfall after Tyler Driver ‘97. Joseph Conners confronted Bate afterwards.

- Ashton Smith & Oliver Carter def. Pretty Deadly (Sam Stoker & Lewis Howley)

- Women’s champ Kay Lee Ray was out, but quickly interrupted by Toni Storm. Storm complained that Ray stole her win in Blackpool. The champ offered an ‘I Quit’ match with the stipulation that if she wins, Toni can never challenge again as long as she’s champ.

- Aoife Valkyrie def. Amale via pinfall after a double stomp off the ropes. This was the recently signed Valkyrie’s debut.

- Dave Mastiff def. Saxon Huxley

- Trent Seven def. Eddie Dennis in a “steel corners match” (turnbuckles were exposed) via pinfall after a Birminghammer

Saturday

- Grizzled Young Veterans got some mic time to proclaim themselves the best tag team in NXT UK.

- Joe Coffey def. Amir Jordan, then talked about his issues with Dragunov and put over his Gallus mates for their match.

- NXT UK Tag champs Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) def. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch via pinfall after their enziguri/power slam combo. Ilja showed up and caught a beating from Gallus.

- Aoife Valkyrie def. Amale in a likely re-tape

- Tyler Bate def. Joseph Conners via pinfall after Tyler Driver ‘97

- Jinny cut a promo establishing her split from the departing Jazzy Gabert.

- Noam Dar def. Josh Morrell via pinfall after a Novaroller running enziguri

- Ilja Dragunov def. Joe Coffey via pinfall after the Torpedo Moscow running uppercut

- The Grizzled Young Veterans def. The Hunt via pinfall after Ticket to Mayhem

- Kassius Ohno def. Jack Starz via submission

- A-Kid defeated The Brian Kendrick via pinfall after a springboard backflip DDT

- NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray def. Toni Storm in an I Quit match; Storm quit rather than have her head stomped into a chair.

- Alexander Wolfe def. Travis Banks via pinfall after a Liger Bomb

- Ridge Holland def. Saxon Huxley via pinfall after an Alabama Slam

- Aoife Valkyrie def. Isla Dawn via pinfall after a top rope Fame-Asser

- NXT UK Champion WALTER def. Dave Mastiff via pinfall after a jackknife powerbomb

This will increase speculation Toni Storm isn’t long for the brand, but it seems Moustache Mountain are sticking around. We’ll see what happens Rumble weekend. The next tapings are in early March.
