This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown saw two matches added to the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) scheduled Jan. 26, 2020, in Houston, while two previously set bouts had stipulations added.
First, the matches added to the show. Sheamus and Shorty G have been going back-and-forth recently and now they’ll get to settle up in a straight up singles match that, yes, is actually getting time on the main card of the show. It seems an obvious candidate to move to the Kickoff show as well. Meanwhile, Lacey Evans defeated Bayley in a non-title match, earning her way into a shot at the SmackDown women’s championship.
Next, the matches that got stipulations. Daniel Bryan decided he wants to really get after it in his Universal championship match against Bray Wyatt, so they’ll have a strap match. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns defeated Bobby Roode in a tables match to earn the right to pick the stipulation for his match against Baron Corbin. He chose Falls Count Anywhere.
The updated Royal Rumble match card:
- Men’s Royal Rumble
- Women’s Royal Rumble
- Bray Wyatt (c) vs. Daniel Bryan (Universal championship)
- Becky Lynch (c) vs. Asuka (Raw women’s championship)
- Bayley (c) vs. Lacey Evans (SmackDown women’s championship)
- Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin
- Sheamus vs. Shorty G
