NXT books big matches for TakeOver: Portland, Worlds Collide

On this morning’s edition of The Bump, NXT broke some news about the live WWE Network specials they have coming up over the next month.

The announcement of a 4Way for the Cruiserweight championship at Worlds Collide has implications for tonight’s episode of the black-and-gold brand, too. In Houston on Jan. 25, Angel Garza will defend his title against two NXT UK Superstars and one from the U.S.-based show.

The NXT entrant will be determined by a Triple Threat on Jan. 15. Will the man Garza defeated for the purple belt, Lio Rush, get a chance to become a two-time champ? Or will it be Rush’s tag partner from last Friday’s 205 Live, Isiah “Swerve” Scott? How a man who made his debut in the division last week, Tyler Breeze?

Garza & his three challengers will join a line-up for Houston which includes Undisputed ERA vs. Imperium and NXT Women’s champ Rhea Ripley vs. Toni Storm.

The first official match for Feb. 16’s TakeOver: Portland isn’t a surprise, as the two men agreed to it on last Wednesday’s NXT. But it needed management’s blessing, and we now know Johnny Gargano & Finn Bálor got it.

This has been brewing since shortly after Bálor returned to the brand. His attack on Gargano was the storyline explanation for Johnny missing his first TakeOver in three years.

Nothing else has been officially announced for Oregon’s first TakeOver, but Adam Cole vs. Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT title and Ripley defending her belt against the winner of Jan. 15’s #1 contender battle royal seem like safe bets.

Fired up for lots of weekend NXT action on WWE Network in the coming weeks?
