WWE SummerSlam 2019 results: Two title defenses, Edge, surprise Rowan attack highlight Kickoff show

@WWE

At the very last minute, WWE went ahead and announced three matches for the Kickoff show at tonight’s (Sun., Aug. 11, 2019) SummerSlam event from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The first match saw Drew Gulak withstand an offensive onslaught from Oney Lorcan to retain his Cruiserweight championship. He used a punch to the throat while the referee had his back turned to gain the advantage, but either way, he’s still your 205 Live champion.

The second was a surprise, as rumors suggested Buddy Murphy could have scored a match against Roman Reigns on this show but instead found himself on the pre-show opposite Apollo. Then, deep into the match, Rowan showed up to attack Murphy for implicating him in the recent attacks on Reigns.

“You keep my name out of your mouth,” Rowan screamed at Murphy as Daniel Bryan was shown watching from backstage.

There was a brief interlude that saw Edge return. Read more on that here.

Finally, the women’s tag team titles were on the line, with The IIconics getting a rematch for the straps they lost to Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross. The champs were doing a Toy Story cosplay, or at least Alexa was full Buzz Lightyear. It was fun.

She also used Twisted Bliss to pin Peyton Royce to retain the titles. It wasn’t flying, it was falling with style.
