If you noticed less WILD CARD in your Raw on July 8, that’s because WWE ran a SmackDown brand house show in Glen Falls, New York at the same time Team Red was filming in Newark.
That gave us less televised New Day on a Monday than we’ve been used to lately, but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t news about the trio. Big E and Xavier Woods won the opening match in Cool Insuring Arena (yes, that’s the name of the Glen Falls venue), but while WWE champion Kofi Kingston was there tossing pancakes about, he was announced as injured.
A correspondent told Wrestling Inc. that Kingston explained he’d been injured in his match with Dolph Ziggler at Sunday’s live event in Binghamton, NY, but that it was minor and he expects to be ready to face Samoa Joe on Sunday (July 14) at Extreme Rules. Kofi’s advertised for SmackDown in Manchester, New Hampshire this evening (July 9), but WWE isn’t promoting him for a televised match. Hopefully we’ll have confirmation he’s fine for the pay-per-view (PPV) after tonight’s show.
There was some good news on the injury front, as Randy Orton was back in action following some time off for a neck issue. He’s an oft-mentioned possibility as Aleister Black’s door knocker, and the fact they worked together in New York last night (and were facing off against each other on house shows before Orton’s injury) might just be a spoiler.
We’ll definitely get an answer on that tonight. Tune in with us here for hopefully nothing but good news from SmackDown.
