John Cena enters the ‘Tooth Fairy’ phase of his Hollywood career

Cena continues to follow Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Game Plan’ with the kid’s flick, ‘Playing with Fire’

Fighting with Fire’s Twitter

We keep pretty close tabs on John Cena here at cSs, but this one somehow missed us. There’s probably a joke to be made about not being able to see this project or something...

Anyway, the first poster and trailer for Playing with Fire dropped today. And while Cena’s acting career kind of started with productions aimed at kids like his recurring guest star role Nickelodeon’s Fred, this is the first time he’s been the above-the-title star of a full-on family comedy.

If it feels kind of like when Dwayne Johnson was making movies like Tooth Fairy and The Game Plan, it should. Playing with Fire - the short pitch for which is “Nothing can prepare these elite firefighters for their most challenging job yet: babysitting” - is directed by Andy Fickman. Fickman directed The Rock in Race to Witch Mountain and, you guessed it, The Game Plan.

Hey, it worked for Dwayne. And you can’t say Cena hasn’t surrounded himself with talented people. Keegan-Michael Key, Deadpool’s Brianna Hildebrand, Judy Greer and John freaking Leguizamo is a heck of a support cast for a pretty basic set-up.

Following this with Fast & Furious 9, where he may or not be Rocky’s replacement?

That’s a good Game Plan...

(Get it? See, we can do jokes!)
