When WWE started calling Shane McMahon “The Best in the World” after last fall’s Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia, a lot of people questioned if it might be a way of mocking CM Punk.
Punk himself figured it was his old bosses taking a shot at him - the former WWE champion who walked away from the company and the business, did a tell all interview about working at WWE, and won a lawsuit he & others believe was funded by Vince McMahon which claimed he defamed WWE doctor Chris Amann in that interview. He told Chicago’s Sauce & Shram as much after WrestleMania 35, while explaining WWE would never admit to it:
“I think he’s been calling himself the best in the world. And this is the funny thing about the company, is I could say, ‘Yeah, that’s a little shot at me.’ And, it probably is, but they’d deny it until the cows come home.”
Well, “Best in the World” Shane O’Mac didn’t have a great night at Extreme Rules. And when “Best in the World” Punk’s friend (and former UFC public relations head Dave Sholler) tweeted a pic of Shane post-Tombstone piledriver, the Straight Edge Superstar took his own shot:
As you probably can guess, the screenshot means Punk deleted his tweet a little less than an hour after sending it. Which is perfect, cause everyone can laugh while his diehard fans fans laud him for continuing to “stick it to the man” and critics call it another “look at me” plea for attention.
And everyone will pretty much be right!
