Have Heavy Machinery already reached their ceiling?

Shakes, weights, and mid-card comedy

As far as NXT call-ups go, Otis and Tucker have had a pretty good run on the main roster. Can Heavy Machinery complete their climb today (Jul. 14) at Extreme Rules?

The story so far

It feels like several months ago, but Daniel Bryan and Rowan only won the SmackDown tag team titles in early May. The Usos are off to Monday nights and with that the SmackDown tag team division opened up a little bit.

While The New Day worked through injuries and Kofi Kingston’s feuds, Heavy Machinery filled the role of the blue brand’s main baby face duo.

The build to Extreme Rules

The way WWE has handled their tag team divisions for the past several years has left a lot to be desired. Grading on a curve, it looks like Otis and Tucker are viewed highly within WWE creative.

Week in and week out Heavy Machinery has had at least some sort of presence on SmackDown. In the ring, Otis and Tucker are still a work in progress. On the mic and in comedy spots, the big men have proven they are able to at least hold their own with WWE’s top teams.

The go-home show

Last month at Stomping Grounds, Bryan and Rowan defeated Heavy Machinery in a surprisingly long title defense. Bryan got the better of Tucker with a small package pin, so maybe there still is a story left to be told.

Also coming off a loss at Stomping Grounds, Big E and Xavier Woods are here because at the end of the day they are still a damn good tag team.

Perhaps the best part of this Extreme Rules triple threat tag team match is that all three teams can make the case they deserve to have their hands raised on Sunday night. It may be a tad early, but Extreme Rules might be the night Otis and Tucker capture gold.

With the way WWE has treated both tag teams and NXT call-ups, if not Sunday, will there ever be a right time to crown Heavy Machinery the kings of their division?

Tune into cSs for full bell-to-bell coverage of Extreme Rules today starting at 6:00 p.m. ET with the Kickoff show leading right on into the main card at 7:00 p.m. ET.
