Bret Hart on Hall of Fame attack: ‘I’m glad that did not ruin the moment for Jim’

One of the most surreal, and scary, pro wrestling moments of 2019 came when a fan rushed the stage at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony in an attempt to attack Bret Hart.

Hart attended the ceremony to induct his friend the late Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. Luckily Hart and Natalya were unharmed from the bizarre incident after both wrestlers and security rushed the stage.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated this week, Hart recalled what was going through his mind during the attack.

“I came to the Hall of Fame with a real purpose to honor my friend and speak on his behalf about our accomplishments together, and I was not going to let someone ruin that moment. As soon as that disruption happened, my immediate focus was on finishing my speech and saying what I had to say. I’m glad that did not ruin the moment for Jim.”

Hart continued and reflected more on his friendship with Neidhart.

“I loved Jim. He was a team guy, and he liked the different styles that we had, with him being more of a power guy and me as the technical guy. We had a magical relationship, together for six years straight. I laughed so hard every day with Jim. When I look back on my career, I have to thank Jim for all the happy days we had.”

Hart has had himself a very active 2019. When not getting shout outs from Snoop Dogg, The Hitman also made a surprise appearance at AEW’s Double or Nothing to reveal the promotion’s top title.
