Vin Diesel kind of spilled the beans (possibly because his co-star-turned-rival Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs & Shaw trailer was getting a bunch of buzz and he wanted to grab some spotlight by announcing a WWE Superstar for his side of the franchise? You can have that bit of unsourced speculation for free, TMZ) back in April, but Universal confirmed it yesterday (June 7)... John Cena will be in Fast & Furious 9.
Not much is known about the flick, which was moved out on the schedule thanks to Johnson & Jason Statham’s spin-off and will now premiere in May of 2020. Production is set to start later this month, so if Cena’s gonna work SummerSlam, he probably won’t be around for much of the build.
Deadline says they’ve heard Diesel’s rival The Rock will not be in Fast & Furious 9. As for Cena’s character, their source would only confirm he’ll be playing “a badass”.
Might want to bring back the buzzcut. Not sure the dad hair is gonna work, but John’s acting chops have been improving...
Excited for the latest WWE/Fast Universe crossover?
