WWE hasn’t given fans much of a hook to tune in to tonight’s (Sun., June 23, 2019) Stomping Grounds pay-per-view (PPV) from the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. There are too many rematches of bouts that no one was asking for to begin with and weren’t all that compelling the first time around.
In the case of the main event, Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin, the entire promotion for the match is that Corbin gets to choose a guest referee but as of now it’s a mystery who that will be.
Fun!
So who gets the gig? There have been some names thrown around, but not much in the way of hints. There really aren’t many names that even make sense. Corbin used to run with Bobby Lashley and he isn’t doing much else at the moment. He also used to run with Drew McIntyre, though he’s busy with Roman Reigns.
One theory going around is that Corbin will throw Rollins off by tasking his girlfriend, Becky Lynch, with calling their match. I’m not sure how much sense that makes, considering, but it’s certainly a theory.
Another theory that makes little sense, but one I can 100-percent see WWE going with, is having Brock Lesnar don the stripes. The Money in the Bank cash-in teases have been hammered hard, and this would act as a natural extension of that. It would be incredibly stupid for Corbin to make that choice, of course, but this is WWE we’re talking about.
So I’ll guess Lesnar, and be apathetic when it’s really Lashley.
