Prior to his storybook rise to winning the WWE title at WrestleMania 35, Kofi Kingston had spent a good deal of his career as a tag team wrestler. Heck, even as the top man on SmackDown, he’s still seldom apart from the men he’s held tag gold with on five different occasions - Big E & Xavier Woods of The New Day.
This weekend, Kingston will be alone, or at least in a match designed to keep outsiders from interfering, when he defends his title against Dolph Ziggler in a steel cage match at Stomping Grounds. But while he was in Jeddah for Super ShowDown, Saudi Arabian wrestling site AC Wrestling asked him about how his tag team past.
Excluding his current partners, of course, who was Kofi’s favorite partner?
“I was tag team champions with CM Punk, which was awesome because I learned so much from him. He was one of the guys who took me under his wing when he didn’t have to. I was always grateful for that friendship. Being tag team partners with R-Truth is always fun. He’s always making you laugh. Every moment we had together was always fun. Evan Bourne, same thing. Super cool and athletic. We would try to out-do each other. It was an awesome experience to see him up-close-and-personal. I can’t possibly pick a favorite.”
Not surprising that a good guy had good things to say about all three men he won a championship with before joining E & X.
